i bring all this up bc i saw a post i completely get where it was coming from with the impact of unrestricted internet access in this person’s life but i didn’t wanna dump all of that into a QRT even if it was a bit of an open convo
honestly, too many issues now and their origins can at least partially be summed up with “the average parent values bigotry, authority, and the power to neglect or harm as they please over building emotional connection and trust with their child/ren because society views kids as lesser”
unrestricted internet access hidden from my controlling parent is what allowed me to explore my identity and find what i consider now my found family, but people romanticize the internet at any/all stages of its existence (and what was too accessible on it even in its early days) a bit too much
