I doubt that there is a single family in America that hasn’t benefitted directly from the NIH.
This whole executive order is so awful with open efforts to institutionalize houseless folx. And this blatant effort to kill SAMHSA funding for harm reduction prevention and intervention efforts in it is also infuriating. Harm reduction saves lives, and it’s evidence-based. Period. Full stop.
Our team is thrilled to present a new interview series on culturally adapting mental health treatments for Black, Latinx, and Asian clients - featuring practical, research-informed guidance for researchers, clinicians, and students. Watch here: tinyurl.com/mrx3et5z.

First full day of @rsaofficial.bsky.social 2025 meeting. Great seeing friends/colleagues last night. Starts with a NIAAA update from Dr. Koob. Most notable take-aways: no more NIAAA study sections... 25% reduction in staff.... no news on budget... 1/2

Proud of STRESS Lab doctoral candidate @reina-kiefer.bsky.social for having the courage to share her story. Your experiences offer hope, healing, and strength to others who may be silently carrying similar pain. Your bravery is powerful.
Beaming with pride because Dr. Emmanuel Thomas just crushed his dissertation defense!
This survey is a vital resource for researchers and the public to track the prevalence and impact of drug use and mental health problems in the US. It's a VITAL database. And it's just going to be gone. Devastating.
The entire National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) team at SAMHSA was terminated today. Do not listen to the platitudes of this administration when they say they care about drug overdose, addiction, mental health, or suicide.

An important point getting overlooked: When NIH cancels "diversity" grants (e.g., diversity supplements, Fs, Ks, etc), they aren't canceling the grants based on *what* the grant studies. They're cancelling them based on *who* is doing the research. And that disallowed "who" is anyone not white.
Very fun & productive day with @mpwrlab.bsky.social collaborating with the STRESS Lab at URI. We split into 2 groups and wrote 2 Papers in 1 Day! Nice pre-conference activity in downtown Providence w/stellar doc students. Big thanks to @nicoleweiss.bsky.social and her team for organizing & hosting!

I just reached out to my senators about the NIH situation. If you need to find out how much impact NIH has in your state in terms of dollars in and their economic impact here's a link: www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...
