not sure if this is the most implausible thing that has happened to me but it's got to be top three

Today I was in Shoreditch and I went to an anarchist book fair and also to another, non-anarchist, book fair
I think we're all misunderstanding the NYT television list, I think they just asked some guy passing through the office to name 100 television shows and these were the ones he could think of
the people who made the movie "Inside Man" should hire someone to stand at the window of anyone who has just watched the movie "Inside Man" and whisper "...don't think about it..." as viewers start to ask each other questions like "what" and "wait what" and "what" and "no just a minute, what"
would you like to meet our new cat? her name is All The Fur I Brushed Off Madeleine Over The Summer
oh my god she looks so much like a stick!! no wonder it took them so long to find her
Two new stick insect species uncovered in Far North Queensland
I get why nobody likes “The Last Battle” much but when I was a kid I loved it. Admittedly I still didn’t realise it was about Jesus and also, was convinced that all the “further up and further in” heading-into-the-mountains involved escalators, which I rarely encountered and considered very exciting
Playing card museum in Gdynia is incredible, I’ll write it up properly later but strong recommend if you’re ever randomly in the area, which to be clear you won’t be, you go through an industrial estate and into an empty building full of cabinets of glass eyes and you press a button at a closed door
These double tailed mermaids have a lot more leg going on than I would generally expect but I admit I am not fully caught up on the latest romantasy trends
I’m in Gdańsk / Gdynia / Sopot for a few days and it’s extremely nice!
enjoyed this post - even as someone who did a bunch of this kind of thing Back In The Day eg maybe 2004-2011 I have maybe *never* downloaded and played a print-and-play card game. Even though I own a printer, laminator, guillotine etc.

I haven't read ANY of these books from a couple of end-of-year 1976 best-of lists; I haven't even heard of most of them
From this date in 2021: a look at 15 books considered some of the best of 1976. A reminder of how evanescent critical acclaim can be. neglectedbooks.com/?...
I'm sitting in a theatre foyer eavesdropping on a TV guy pitching ideas and: look, as much as we might go "ohhh game designers should stop only taking inspiration from games" it is NOTHING compared to how this guy is taking inspiration from, precisely, the 20 most popular TV shows he can think of

I understand this change in the weather is objectively for the best and I am trying to think positively about the gentle coming-to-life of England’s desiccated gardens and depleted reservoirs as I turn on the giant SAD lamp that I will now keep running non-stop until approximately April
if you are in Australia then you should check out Pink Shorts Press's September releases (I wrote a little intro for Moya Costello's wonderful and funny and apocalyptic "The Office as a Boat", originally published in 2000)
Two days left to sign up for next year's Arts Emergency!!! Mentors from games are often in particularly short supply! Give it a look, it's fun and pretty straightforward and you get to keep up with what The Young People are like (actually pretty great, reassuringly)!
🚨Registration to be an Arts Emergency mentor in 2027 closes on 4 Sep 2026.🚨 With only 7 days to go we're still short of mentors to meet demand from under-resourced young people. So, if you work in arts and culture, we would love you to sign up! 👉 www.arts-emergency.org/get-involved...
For plotting / procrastination reasons I am reading a zoo's 72-page Animal Escape Response Preparedness plan.
The new toilets at Green Park are very nice but I’m not sure I understand the significance of all the decorative forks in the tiling. What do these indicate? “Dig in”? “Remember: don’t touch the shits with your hands”?
I put a note on my contact-me page saying "if you want me to talk to your book group please tell me about your favourite tree so I know you're not an automated scammer" and it's actually very nice to get emails going eg "I run a small library book group and my favourite tree is the poplar"
this is a great little bookshop; if you're anywhere near Turnpike Lane, it does a mix of new and second-hand which is always such a treat. They also have a bunch of events on allgoodbookshop.co.uk/events-1
We really don't want to do this, but it's been a bad summer and we need help. Footfall has been down and many of our customers are away. This has meant a reduction of weekly income by £500- £600. It may not be the biggest amount but it is a lot to us.
The cats are three years old today!! This means nothing to them and they don’t seem to want to pose charmingly for a birthday photo so here is them recently, and just turned 2, and just turned 1, and as tiny kittens
My first lunar eclipse: I was about 11. Convinced mum to let me stay awake an extra two hours. Sleepily went outside and looked at where the moon had been earlier and huh, yeah, I couldn’t see it, cool. Went to sleep. Realised in the morning that the moon moves and I’d been staring at empty sky.
absolutely wild that even the "good" game publishers go around posting triumphantly about "our games" without, for example, naming the people who actually made the game.
I have started a new todo list system where each week if something fills me with a sense of immense dread and guilt it goes on a separate Shame List and as soon as I've done one thing from the Shame List each week I don't have to look at it or think about it again until the following Monday
@adamatomic.bsky.social are you interested in hearing about a very specific non-game-breaking punch dungeon bug or would you prefer to just not know

I had to go and look on streetview to be sure this wasn’t some sort of complicated New Zealand joke but no, this is a real place
What I love about Christchurch is the seemless blending of brutalist architecture and play.
