Daily writing prompt If you had to give one life-changing tip, what would it be? View all responses When I was twenty I was a size eight with blonde hair down to my ass and nothing at all to do in this world beyond walk. My mom had just died and I wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail. That one book about Reese Witherspoon hiking the Pacific Crest Trail after her own mother's death had not come out yet, so that idea was still unique.

Her favorites didn't live here, though. She enjoyed the cacophony of the connected, the fungi which devoured, clung, sucked up moisture and turned it into mushroom music, sweet and clear and utterly silent. So guess what? Guess what? She chose them for her high school senior project without considering what her dads would have to do to make it happen, the fiscal and emotional cost, the reality it'd reflect, and, of course, should it all pan out the way it did, a possibility none of them considered—what she would do, if the world were to end while she was away.
