Hi everyone, Xav Maldonian here.

This is a bit of a long post so here goes.

On Monday of June 29, I had what I thought was a Heart Attack and called 911. I went to Urgent Care, then taken to the ER soon after that.

According to everything, it definitely wasn't a Heart Attack since it doesn't match any patterns they've seen and opted for Cardiac Stress testing later. It was more likely a very severe Panic Attack.

Just as I was leaving the ER via Uber, I felt the same symptoms of the Panic Attack that I called 911 for, so I asked to be taken back and immediately went back to the ER.

I was given some medicine for it then, when was knocking me out pretty on and off, since I hadn't actually slept during my entire stay much.

This event spanned until July 1 when I finally came home, and I only had one box meal during that time.

Since then I've been on recovery, but there were times I felt I needed to go back to the ER because my heart rate just went up and I couldn't get it back down, but it slowly calmed roughly an hour later.

My mate from across the country and a close roomie have been keeping any eye on me as much as they can and I've arranged things so they can keep in contact with each other in case of emergency.

During that time, I made a fark up with Paypal and now I'm pretty much at a loss of money from my main bank.

As how currently things are, I can't really get myself to relax to play games, work on art or pretty much do anything since all I wind up doing is just focusing on breathing.

Streaming is what helps pays some bills, but that's not really happening while I'm like this.

If you can help spread this around and offer anything towards my ko-fi, that would be beyond great. Anything will absolutely help this mon try to keep with those bills and also get some easy to make food to eat.

I’ve thought long and hard about making this post, but really, at this point, I don’t have much to lose. Desperate times, and all that.

TLDR version: I need a kidney transplant, and I’m looking for a donor. Read below for all the gory details.

Since late 2019, right before Covid hit, I’ve been battling a serious illness. I’ve been kind of cagey about what exactly is wrong, for a number of reasons, but here’s the truth—I’m in full kidney failure.

There is no history of this in my family, so when the symptoms began appearing I didn’t recognize them until it was too late. By the time I went to a doctor my kidney function had dropped into the single digits. Most kidney failure is caused by diabetes or high blood pressure—I got some weird kidney disease I can’t even pronounce and never heard of: Oxalate Nephropathy.

By adopting some dietary changes and careful monitoring, I was able to limp along with reduced kidney function for several years. But you don’t appreciate how much your kidneys do to keep you healthy until they stop working. There’s constant fatigue and nausea, and a general feeling of unwellness that never goes away.

But eventually I lost even what minimal function I had left, which left the end of the line for kidney disease: dialysis. As of this point I’ve been on dialysis for about 3 years. Let me tell you—dialysis is its own special kind of hell that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.

But even that is just a stop-gap measure, and my condition is continuing to get worse. Despite this, I’m trying my best to live as normal a life as possible. I’m extremely lucky I have a job that’s willing to allow me 9 hours a week for dialysis, so I’m still working. On weekends I work on my art and comics, and one or two days a month I do my volunteer work at the bird-banding site. I can even travel to see my family—if I arrange for dialysis at a local clinic ahead of time.

All of that is done while trying to deal with the symptoms of kidney failure. I’ve known 4 people who were on dialysis—none of them worked or really did much of anything, and at this point they’re all dead, which doesn’t really give me a lot of hope for my future.

Which brings us to the point of all this—I desperately need a kidney transplant. That is the only thing that will give me a chance at a relatively normal life. I’ve been approved and on the transplant list for a few years, but the waiting period in California is very long. By the time I get to the top of it, I may be too sick to get one. Right now I’m still in relatively good condition, comparatively. A transplant from a living donor lasts much longer and is better in every way than one you get from a deceased donor.

Unfortunately, everyone in my immediate family is too old or has other health problems that preclude donation. So this post is a desperate attempt to find anyone willing to donate. I realize donating a kidney is a lot different than giving ten bucks to a GoFundMe, but as I said at the beginning, at this point I don’t have much to lose by asking.
