Just read an article in the @nytimes.com & once again, there seemed to be a real sense of disrespect & defensiveness about Canada. A growing pattern? The US media seems fatigued & needs to bolster itself by demeaning others. Yet, another ex. of how US exceptionalism is/was bs. Sad & infuriating.

Most of the freedoms, financial independence and social choices I enjoy today I owe to Steinem and the women who fought for women's rights in the 60s. I am furious that there are still those who would take those rights away again.

Sept. 2, 1666: The Great Fire of London starts. It burns for 4 days, & destroys much of the city. In it's wake, starving Londoners were saved by the Dutch, who gave out free eels. A grateful king granted them free mooring & a monopoly on eels sales. A lovely story. Except it didn't happen. 1/5 🧪🗃️

Noticing a trend by great American writers who seem to have adopted a defensive stance & try to make us remember how great the US still is, could be. I think perhaps time spent on fixing what has gone terribly wrong there might be a better idea. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
