🇺🇦 Today marks four years since Russia's full invasion of Ukraine. On this occasion, we had a single vote in Brussels today. MEPs called for security guarantees for Ukraine, energy decoupling from Russia and further sanctions. Those are curr blocked by Hungary in the Council. howtheyvote.eu/185885

Today, the European Parliament adopted an agreement reached with the Council on a list of "safe third countries" and its application. ❗The votes were carried by a right-wing majority of EPP, ECR and PfE. What that means and a flash-analysis 🧵 howtheyvote.eu/votes/184172

As expected, all three votes today on the aspects of the 'safe third countries' list at EU level were carried by the EPP with the three far-right parties. Each of the votes looked like a variation of this (data via @howtheyvote.eu):

For those keeping watch, today we will likely see another major vote in the European Parliament on the back of the 'Venezuela majority' of the centre-right EPP with the threee far-right groups. Today on the menu: Migration and 'safe third countries'.

Quote from Politico.EU: NEW EU MIGRATION DOCTRINE: The European Parliament’s hemicycle will today ratify a deal with EU countries allowing them to deport migrants to third countries, even it those migrants don’t have a direct connection with those countries, as long as there is a bilateral or EU agreement with the receiving government. It will pave the way for EU capitals to deploy the so-called return hubs, following Italy’s Albania model.

Right-wing majority: The deal will be passed with votes from the EPP and the groups to its right, with some support from liberals in the Renew Europe group. Another bill will be approved setting a list of countries to be declared safe for deportations.

This just in: The #EP requests judicial review by the ECJ on the Mercosur Trade Deal with an ultra-thin majority of 10 votes. More in-depth analysis will follow, but the majority was formed in probably the wildest way yet - relevant shares of votes from all groups. howtheyvote.eu/votes/183884
