A lot of the focus on today’s latest #Top500 list will obviously focus on the new #1 system from China. But the other big story is that a single commercial user site (ENI) now has 2 #supercomputers in the top 10. I don’t think that has ever happened before? #HPc #ISC26

#Top500 FUD: Meaningless because not all #supercomputers are listed. - This has always been true. HPL doesn’t represent range of real applications. - No single benchmark ever will. #FP64 isn’t critical anymore. - It’s still heavily used in many/most production #HPC apps.

“Sovereign #HPC” Definition: A label self-applied to #supercomputers by buyers who bought similar hardware from similar vendors as previous systems they bought, and hosted in the same datacentre, but it’s now sovereign because they said so. A debate for #ISC26 attendees?

Obviously every #HPC press release at #ISC26 - whether by vendor or by customer site - will mention #AI but it will also need to mention #sovereign to get the full bonus points.

Unfortunately missing a sunny bank holiday at home. Currently at Heathrow where apparently the record has been broken for the hottest day of May on record at 33.6 degrees C. Luckily I am inside and in air conditioned space tho.

WiFi is struggling to cope at Salishan #HPC conference - close to non functional. So lots of attendees turning on personal phone hotspots to get their laptops online. Fascinating to browse the list of personal hotspot names to see what name people use for their phone / hotspot.
