SCREEN Act, which would have required mandatory age-verification for sites (like this) that allow "material harmful to minors" failed to pass out of committee after thousands and thousands of people called their Senators. More work ahead!

The SCREEN Act just failed to pass in the Senate Commerce Committee! 🎉 Enormous thanks to the thousands (!!) of you who told your Senators to vote no! Your voice matters and you should feel good that you made a difference. Obviously, the fight isn't over, but this was an important victory.

Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.

Hey streamers So many people I follow are live right now and only ONE has closed captions on. I am drying my hair rn so can't listen, but this is also a much larger accessibility issue. Please get this add-on for OBS. You don't need to use anything else as it works with Twitch's built in support

If anyone is getting smacked with this - just use deer.social or another alternate client. Bsky is just an AT Protocol Client, and your Bsky account is an AT Protocol account - you can use your same Bsky account thru another AT Protocol Client, no migration or loss necessary. Could not be easier.

These kinds of laws have an invisible ripple effect across the country. A good number of corporations will just change their policies instead of making a NYC-specific protocol. A lot of the consumer protections we have started in one state or big city.
