Doing what we can, solar, battery, EV and ASHP, cycle mostly ! Insulated bits of a 1930’s solid wall bungalow and it’s lovely.💚

In a recent Podcast with Gabriel Zucman he mentioned countries should develop a US style tax, where even if you leave you pay tax, you have benefited from all the societal structures to make money & if you needed help, your home country would come to your aid( like the recent flights from Dubai).

Funny how the superrich didn't flee in the late 1940s when the top tax rate was over 90% ... ps any discussion of the British economy which doesn't include the proposal to #TaxTheRich is billionaire lobbyist funded bullsh*t via Patrick Nicholson

I know people who clung onto the Labour Party in the slim chance that after Keir Starmer things might have been different. Labour consistently revealing there's absolutely no plan for change. The puurpose is to maintain power & wealth for the super rich. Join.greenparty.org.uk

"US spy tech giant Palantir paid an effective tax rate of just 8% on their £25.3m UK profits. Most companies with profits above £250,000 pay 25%. How is a company that’s won £670m in UK public contracts (including a massive £330m NHS deal) able to dodge our tax rules? " via 38 degrees

#r4today reporting BBC’s investigation into people smuggler ‘King’. Justin Webb totally crestfallen when told by immigration specialist that Brexit binned the data sharing agreement we had with the EU. So, we can’t now properly check. We don’t have access to Eurodac - the fingerprint database. Ffs.

People smuggler convicted in France found by BBC living in UK and seeking asylumSince Brexit, the UK no longer has a data-sharing agreement with many countries in the EU, making it more difficult to check criminal and immigration records of asylum seekers, according to Lucy Moreton of the Immigration Services Union.
"If we were able to share databases, even if just with our nearest neighbours, with Germany, with Belgium, with Holland and France, say - then, yes, we'd know that they had a conviction for people smuggling," she said.

🥵 The UK is sweltering under extreme heat. Disrupted trains. School closures. Hospitals under pressure. Yet some politicians want to abandon action that would prevent these extreme heatwaves in the future. Tell the next Prime Minister: don't row back on tackling climate change.🙏

The next PM could - and in my view should - properly stick it to Trump (as Meloni has just done); announce a plan to undo Brexit; put immigration to bed for at least one electoral cycle; take their government off Twitter; unequivocally condemn Netanyahu & resurrect Leveson 2… A boy can dream.
