Why does Elsevier have to make it so hard for reviewers to request for an extension? I had to beg multiple times via emails and through the editorial manager website to no avail. All emails failed to deliver.

And most research universities won't function/exist. More than half of the grant amounts pays for uni's operations (i.e., overhead). At my (public research) uni, state funding only accounts for <11% of its annual budget. The rest comes from endowment, tuition, and of course overhead from grants.
Katie Mack@astrokatie.com · 2y agoI think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
