Gearing up to slow (?) read the Wilson translation of the Odyssey with the lovely @lisasass.bsky.social, using the Lattimore translation and the Oxford Greek texts for reference as appropriate/useful. The Greek texts will arrive later, perhaps after a ten year journey ... Fresh notebook is ready!

Two books, different editions of the Odyssey of Homer, translated by Emily Wilson (left) and Richmond Lattimore (right). Underneath is a new Mnemosyne brand notebook. On a dark wooden desk.

At your next meal, take a second to think about the people working long hours in HOT 100° temps to put food on your table. They're not just statistics. They're real people who can't avoid the heat in an air conditioned house or office. #WeFeedYou

Reposting this because in the replies are several great references to Greek texts, translations, and online tools for reading the Odyssey for those so inclined.

Best Greek text of the Odyssey? @lisasass.bsky.social and I will be reading the new translation together, and while I can’t hack reading Greek anymore, let alone the arcane Greek of Homeric epic, I’d like to refer to the text for words and phrases as my feeble skills permit. Recommendations?

I drive home to Delaware from St. Louis today and I for one did not anger Poseidon or any other of the fickle Greek deities so it shouldn’t take me ten years to get home … Preparing hekatomb now to ensure survival …

At Knoebels amusement park in the Poconos (Pennsylvania). Found a nice shaded picnic table to read and drink my thermos of coffee while my son and two of his friends ride the rides and probably get sugar highs. They’ll either pass out during the three hour drive home or be utterly wired.
