Back from vacation, props to the best house in Carolina Beach, North Carolina (what a redundant city name)
Friendly Neighborhood Transsexual
@icanfly42.bsky.social
she/they Recovering software developer, here to dump thoughts on trans stuff, hate on AI, and complain about NC State sports.
Fun me fact, I, a known transsexual, played on my middle school baseball team and we played against our schools softball team once and just got completely destroyed, like mercy ruled. It was brutal
What if I just want women's baseball to catch on so I can say "I played on my middle school baseball team" without outing myself
In general I think I'd rather jump off a bridge than explain bluesky discourses to people IRL, but then again I don't work for a shitty right wing tabloid
Duke Energy's been running some ads lately saying Datacenters create jobs (not really) follow the rules (Duke Energy literally writes the rules through their cronies in Raleigh) and doesn't even use much water. It's literally the "people are asking me a lot of questions answered by my shirt" meme
Also for whatever it's worth I don't think it's possible he'll move the team to Raleigh, which I see people mentioning sometimes because of his ownership of the Canes. For one he doesn't even live here, two he doesn't own the arena and can't kick NC State basketball out, 3 Charlotte has a team
The league has to get rid of this Dundon guy. He bought the Blazers to hold the city of Portland hostage for arena money and now he's telling all of his underlings to shittalk the city so he can move to Kansas City or something. Cut this shit out or the league will be held hostage by similar ghouls.
I'm not sure people ever really consider how much of like a given city is off limits to them just all the time. Like I feel like I want to do a visualization of a map of a city where you black out all the private buildings you can't enter, all the roads you can't linger in, etc
I love this in tandem with the "why don't you use the bike lanes we already have?" Like maybe they're not where I'm going? Have you driven on every road yet?
My favorite thing is when drivers yell at me to "get in the bike lane" on a road that has no bike lane
It's really weird to see all the stuff around Dundon as a big Canes fan, because like the franchise is undeniably better than it was before he bought the team from Karmanos, but like all the cost cutting is real and he seems to be almost trying to make everyone hate him with the Portland stuff

Is it good that like half of the countries EV charging infrastructure might get folded into a dumb AI bet that also already had space stuff stapled to it all because personal hype for a specific nazi seems to be all that matters to stock value?
So $SPCX swallowing $TSLA is absolutely happening. www.wsj.com/business/aut...
My doctor won't allow a refill for my migraine medicine without another in person checkup, and the soonest appointment is in like 7 months... yay medicine......
Genuine question for anyone who knows, is there a better option than The Wirecutter for random recommendations of things you're not knowledgeable about? I've used that site since before the NYT acquisition and most other sites I run into that try to compete are just marketing or AI slop
when i say the NYTimes deserves neither your money nor your respect, i also mean NYTimes cooking, NYTimes puzzles, crosswords, connections, and wordle, the wirecutter, the athletic, and all their podcasts.
We should build the Movie Instrumentality Project to combine all movies into one orange goo movie
Hideaki Anno’s iconic anime masterpiece Neon Genesis Evangelion is officially coming to the Criterion Channel this September. https://bit.ly/3TuAlnB
You know, I support scanning books and making sure they're backed up online (preferably in a distributed way) to maintain accessibility, but there's no need to destroy them, and training an LLM on them does not in any way preserve them, if anything it just gets an LLM to lie about what it says

Ah, a local government is providing a service that the private market has underserved in certain areas. How horrible this is doomed to failure, also I'm 12 and have never heard of USPS or municipal utilities or ABC Stores or social housing before
I'm still sort of thinking about this since the discourse is still going and seemingly getting more hostile, but like... You can absolutely respect a woman and her work and think her review of a movie misses the mark, and you can think a movie director is good at making movies and dislike his latest
I'm perpetually surprised by what topics bring venom out from internet strangers, I get politics and economics and things that have material effects on people, but today I got flamed for *disagreeing with a movie review* as if that's not something that should be fair game for polite disagreement
I don't know if it's being a caretaker for an elderly parent, having 2 senior dogs with health issues, seeing news about how I deserve to be treated as a second class citizen everyday, or all of the above, but I'm just perpetually fuckin tired, all the dang time.
I have a personal belief that the more a person is a nerd for something: dinosaurs, The Odyssey, etc, the less likely they are to enjoy a popular entertainment version of that thing.

I can say with great pride that after I went to almost every home UNC Football game for my entire childhood... I chose NC State come college time
BREAKING: In addition to the Mike Lombardi HR matter, the University of North Carolina football team is also being investigated by the College Sports Commission — the entity which handles compliance and enforcement of NCAA and NIL rules.
We gotta get Lebron train pilled and taking the ACELA everyday
so much for billionaires fleeing because of zohran
Regardless of people's detailed thoughts about The Odyssey, I think it's actually good for storytelling that one of the most famous directors of our time put his own spin on it, that's how oral histories worked, and we've lost that a little in the land of copyright and IP
Time for my very eloquent long winded movie review time for movies I've seen in theaters recently: Project Hail Mary: Really Good! The Furious: Pretty Good! Supergirl: Not very good, could have been worse though The Odyssey: Very Good!
The Boring Company is hilarious, they don't even bother digging tunnels for the new stations in Vegas anymore, It's just Uber but with like 5 stops youtu.be/e7vFCP3PtuA?...

Elon Musk's tunneling startup is reportedly in talks for a major new funding round.
Random complaint vent time: I saw a movie at Alamo drafthouse recently (Supergirl, which was... fine), and I guess since the last time I did that they switched to app based ordering for food? That was pretty lame, I liked the whole write that you want a milkshake on a card mid movie thing
I think it's been odd to watch a similar thing happen in software companies, like entire teams and subsidiaries are being gutted across the board by layoffs creating a culture of fear for devs... even though the industry is doing mostly fine financially. All dollars must be fed into the AI slopmines
I think people who do not work in media have trouble grasping how genuinely terrifying it is watching organization after organization (even those ostensibly held by entities able to fund them!) continually get carved down into nothing. Lights going out all over
Politics really is annoying because it's like "Hi, I'm trans" and there's suddenly a political backlash against me existing, then I'm like "oh I like e-bikes" and wouldn't you know, there's a backlash against that too. "I think the internet should be free and open" Nope ID verification backlash time
I've got to find a way to combine the random things I'm interested in somehow, someone should invent a transsexual e-bike with Linux that plays basketball and walks dogs, maybe it can play Fire Emblem too as a treat
If I'm ever posting too much or saying stupid shit, it might be good to tell me to log off and take a nap, sometimes I'm just sleep deprived from being woken up in the middle of the night by my dog having seizures...
Jumping in on the chorus of dunks just to say, the only way any Democrat wins in 2028 is by both exciting the base and winning over "swing voters" who just operate entirely on vibes anyway, you'll win over neither group by lecturing your own base
The vibes may be exciting, but if Democrats are going to win this year and in 2028, they must reject the DSA. If you’re tempted by a democratic socialist this year, think of what use Republicans will make of these victories, and ask whether you want to do favors for fascists.
One of the reasons I don't shut up about trans inclusion in sports is just that sports are a part of life and anyone who wants to do it for fun should be able to, regardless of gender, income or even skill! Let kids have fun! Banning trans girls doesn't solve anything!
I have always said that I am a moderate on trans participation in sports, meaning that inclusion should be balanced with fairness. As science suggests trans women can be included in women's sports fairly, I therefore favor inclusion, like any sensible moderate would.
