My design philosophy for interaction in visualization (in most cases) is “complexity at hand" – which is the idea that detail should be drawn out on demand where possible. There's no 'optimal complexity', just balance between what is needed in-moment and must be present to access adjacent possible.

The other night I saw 3 red admiral butterflies chase each other around in a weird synchronized dance high above the treetops, it went on for several minutes. At first it was 2 moths in a kind of dance then a third joined and I don't know what I saw but it was beautiful.
Thinking a lot about what "local" means online. So much organizing (especially in smaller communities and neighbourhoods) happens on platforms that weren’t built with Canadian communities, privacy, or laws in mind. What does "local" online look like to you... Belonging? Proximity? Geography?
