Finished reading Ursula K. Le Guinβs Tehanu, the 4th in the Earthsea Cycle. The pacing is meditative. Written a few decades after the 1st 3 novels, it is a much needed feminist interpretation & reimagining of the Earthsea world. If you want wizards, read this series, not that other wizard series.
Everytime I see the Doug Jones for Alabama signs, I always picture Captain/Ambassador Saru in mind. He would make a good governor of Alabama. So would the actor. The politician is certainly better than the likely winner of the 2026 Alabama governorβs race.

Itβs baffling that students use AI to write their introductory posts in an online introductory history courses. And whatβs more aggravating is that the students who do it the most are history majors. An opportunity to separate the wheat from the chaff I suppose.
I donβt dislike Trek doing genre episodes. βBride of Chaotica!β is one of my VOY episodes. But I want more than just gimmick genre episodes. The Paradise Syndrome was a terrible and offensive genre episode.

However, I did appreciate how Una compares the Federationβs relationship with her Illyrian colony to the Klingon occupation of the planet and not in a flattering way. We need more DS9-like criticism of the Federation
Finished reading James Sallowβs TNG relaunch enovella The Stuff of Dreams. Quite enjoyable. Picard returns to the Nexus when an old friend sabatoges a mission to prevent fundamentalist Griffins from changing the recent past. The friend wants to reunite with his family killed in the Borg onslaught.

1/2 Finished reading David Mackβs TNG relaunch novel Cold Equations 3: The Body Electric. Very enjoyable. Best in the trilogy. Picard & crew assisted by Wesley Crusher & Data race to stop an out-of-control LLM from destroying the galaxy in order to create the universeβs largest piece of AI slop.

Maybe Iβm just being a grumpy old man, but Iβm so fucking sick of filling out medical intake forms via my phone. It also never saves me any time.
Now that Canvas requires MFA to log in, I predict a small but irritating number of students will never log into Canvas this term. This is currently a problem with university email accounts. Some students donβt log in because they donβt bother to use MFA. I know MFA is annoying but just deal with it.
Seeing all these kids walking to school on this very hot and humid day in Alabama makes me wonder why they make them go back to school in early August versus when itβs slightly less hellish after Labor Day. Iβm sure there is a reason.
My Mom who voted from Trump three times: βTrump should step down. I donβt think heβs fit to be president.β It took all my strength not to say I fucking told you so.
Finished reading David Mackβs TNG Cold Equations 2: Silent Weapons. I must admit this one falls flat for me. Iβm also upset about Esperanza PiΓ±ieroβs death.
Well I think this weeksβs episode of SNW (βHuman Best Friendβ) is going to be divisive.
Well that beginning of the academic year meeting could have been an email. Granted it would have been an anxiety inducing email.
Iβm nervous about my nephew starting school tomorrow as a senior. I just met the kid 2 months ago. It canβt be easy to start senior year as a new student in a new school in a new country. Also the dress code is silly. You can wear Christian t-shirts but no Satanism stuff.
Mackβs revival (?) of Data in Cold Equations: The Persistence of Memories also just made me cry. Itβs also more satisfying than the Picard version, which clearly draws its inspiration from Cold Equations.
