Moshe Vardi nails it in this article: cacm.acm.org/opinion/big-... Big Tech owes much of its success to decades of public investment in research, which is now under serious threat. Please speak up in whatever way you can: reach out to your representatives, write an op-ed, post, share...

There are 2 previous historical cases of countries destroying their science and universities, crippling them for decades: Lysenkoism in the USSR and Nazi Germany. The Trump administration will be the 3rd. It's not just budgets but research, institutions, expertise, and training the next generation.
1/3 The US didn’t end up leading the world in computing by luck. It happened because it made long-term, public investments in basic research, especially through NSF. That’s what created the breakthroughs that today’s tech companies are built on.

It's been a real honor and privilege to be your PhD advisor Shankara Pailoor and Ben Mariano! I am truly so proud of everything you both have accomplished.
The FY26 budget slashes NSF by 55%, which directly threatens basic research in the United States. Please call your reps NOW and tell them to reject these cuts and protect science funding. You can find them here: www.congress.gov/members

Wow, there is an account called penguins against Trump 😂
Most birds have a fight or flight response. He forgot we’re flightless birds.

Interesting read. We’ll see how this unfolds in the coming weeks
“no detail was too small to save. In Dec 2022, Mr. Musk stopped paying for janitorial services at Twitter’s offices, leaving trash cans overflowing and bathrooms unstocked. one employee took toilet paper to work and hung it in the bathroom stall with a metal coat hanger as a makeshift spool”

Also fun fact: I tried to post something on X that had the word Blue Sky and it would not let me post it, saying "something went wrong, try again". I deleted the word Blue Sky, my post worked like a charm 😂😅😂
Here is my starter pack of PL folks -- please come and join the fun! go.bsky.app/6kzdn3x
Please convince your friends to join this platform (or whatever else other than X) so we can see interesting content that we **actually** want to see
Can’t do much about what anyone else does, and I sure didn’t get any actual work done today, but at least managed to renew my car registration and have a clean house. More than I was expecting from a day like today
Hello world! I plan to give this a try for some time -- too tired of X and Facebook.
