Tacoma News Tribune reporter Izzie Lund, 26, said she didn't leave her home for three weeks after an unexpected dental bill because she couldn't afford to put gas in her tank. "I was just trapped in my apartment," Lund said.

Sadly, low wages was part of the equation for why I left McClatchy and journalism. If you don't pay your journalists an actual living wage, eventually you won't have any journalists left.
