Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social · 19h agoThe third group targeted is children born to two noncitizen parents, where either parent engaged in "birth tourism" or hired a surrogate in the US, or engaged in any "fraudulent activity to obtain citizenship" (whatever that means). This seems clearly unlawful under the Supreme Court's opinion.

Arrest followed by detention without bond in this situation has become *incredibly* common, especially in the last few weeks. They are no longer even bothering with the pretense that it is about “illegality.”

Imagine if you mailed the IRS a check to pay your taxes, but they left their mail unopened for years and then arrested you for failure to pay taxes. That’s effectively what ICE is doing to increasing numbers of people now; people out of status only because of GOVERNMENT delay.
Okay this is overly general. It’s not “administration policies,” generally, it’s THE MASS TERMINATION OF EXISTING WORK PERMITS due to TPS terminations. That’s the imminent labor shock here.

Why would a noncitizen stick their neck out and intentionally illegally vote, with deportation as the penalty (plus criminal sanctions), to have a minuscule impact on an election? It would be completely irrational (and it basically never happens).

No you’re not reading that wrong. They aren’t required to provide the terms on an Asylum Cooperative Agreement to decide that you are subject to the terms of an Asylum Cooperative Agreement even tho the reg requires the IJ to determine whether you’re subject to the terms of the Agreement.

On the one hand, local police regularly put out warnings about carjackings. On the other, ICE may kill you if you don’t submit to unmarked cars aggressively coming after you.

ICE has faced overwhelming court losses in individual habeas cases on their arrest/detention practices. Instead of cleaning up its practices to comply with the law, the response has been to just arrest more and know relatively few will get lawyers to challenge them. A pure numbers game.

This has gotten very little attention from the media because ICE learned lessons from the chaotic disasters of Kristi Noem’s tenure. Keep a watch.
Amazing that not so long ago we had Loretta Lynch sending US agents to kick down doors in Switzerland and walk corrupt FIFA officials out in cuffs.
I don't think it's reasonable for people to expect FIFA to deny a request like this from the current holder of the FIFA Peace Prize.

They swore under oath he grabbed her by the neck and tried to choke her to death. He was even indicted for attempted murder. Problem is, it never happened! Bystander video unraveled the lie.

Ridiculous legal arguments aside, birthright citizenship might arguably be *the* biggest reason the U.S. grew and thrived as it has. A whole movement and 4 justices want to throw that all in the garbage.
The Wong Kim Ark case reaffirmed today isn't ancient history. His great-grandchildren, Sandra and Norman Wong, are still here, and still proud Americans.

Donald Trump came one vote away from getting the Supreme Court to say that the 14th Amendment does not guarantee birthright citizenship for the children of undocumented and temporary immigrants, a view held only by fringe far-right nativists until VERY recently. This is shocking. I am stunned.
Alright 20 years ago. But the shift supported by a bit of fake scholarship in such a short time is massive and terrifying.
