#IncludeHer - Resources

We are in the process of creating resources for educators and broader public to use in the classroom and share with their community. To get you started, here is an Encyclopaedia of Women Scientists we...

We studied high school STEM curricula to explore the representation of male & female scientists in these courses. We also checked if a name was mentioned because it's about the *person* (scientist) or if it's a law/idea *named after* the person (concept). The results vary dramatically!

Out of the 145 scientists mentioned in the high school curricula we studied, only 1 female scientist was named. Rosalind Franklin. This is a problem, and we are working with education depts. To fix this Learn about our mission at includeher.au

Let's break down our research across the states and territories. Only QLD and SA/NT curricula make any mentions of female scientists. 1 female scientist. Any guesses who?

We did some research on senior school science curricula across Australia. We looked at Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science 🧬🧪✨🪴 And what we found was both alarming and disappointing. Only 1 female scientist is mentioned across all courses 😱

Pie chart showing the number of male vs female scientists mentioned in a selection of AUS STEM science curricula for yr 11/12. There are 144 males and 1 female mentioned.

Huge congrats to @astrokatross.bsky.social for starting the @includeher.bsky.social movement (trust me - go and follow!) with their research published in the Australian Journal of Education regarding the lack of women scientists in the Australian school curriculum and the plan to change this! 🔭🧪👩‍🔬

Only one female scientist is mentioned in Australian high school science curricula
