Why does that look like something you see from Cities: Skylines?
Love drone footage of new builds in exurban Texas, gives me a very particular kind of dread to look at that is hard to replicate with other photos.
The president of the United States is a mentally deranged con man and a pathological liar.
If you reduce the barriers to entry for building, more local, small developers would invest in architecture for personal, subjective reasons and there would be fewer mediocre hot takes on design. www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/open...
S.F. is rushing to build new housing, but we shouldn’t settle for mediocre design
OPINION: If City Hall wants its residents to get behind the “Family Zoning” plan, it needs to work a lot harder to build architecture that is well-designed, columnist Allison Arieff writes.

Kinda crazy that the "why are US elevators so expensive" issue basically got national level attention almost entirely due to one OCD YIMBY. (that's a compliment). Never doubt if one individual can change the world it seems...
“There are many differences in construction costs between the U.S. and other countries, but I’m not sure there’s anywhere else where the difference is as large as the elevator.” @stephenjacobsmith.com
We're working with @metroabundance.bsky.social to collect cost drivers in California building codes and standards above and beyond national model codes/standards. See here for more – please circulate among architects, engineers, etc. in the state! admin.centerforbuilding.org/wp-content/u...

Uber Eats and DoorDash hid tip buttons and set default tips below 10%. As a result, tips for delivery workers fell 79%. In January, we made these corporations change their apps — and in the past six months, we've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets. This is only the beginning.

Upper floors in old buildings: why are they so hard to put to use?
It's enough to revive the street level of a historic commercial corridor with new businesses. But what about those upper floors?

The American mind cannot comprehend the efficiencies of the Swiss single stack.
Remember America. The reason it is being reported that Trump has decided not to "obliterate" Iran for the 117th time is because the oil markets open in 8 hours. We know the trades are being set up by his people & traders to short & buy the bounce that will happen during the week. War by profiteering
San Mateo’s first SB 79 project. I’m sorry but this is too much lot coverage. Even NYC’s tenement house act of 1879 did not allow 91% lot coverage. The building should be 50 ft. deep at most. You should not pack an FAR of 4.5 into five stories, this is terrible design and will lead to a backlash.

Emergent discovery of @chittimarco.bsky.social's research on bidirectional lanes. Could enhance and formalize this with various other measures in the toolbox: tpa.transitcosts.com/atlas/toolbo...
Adding this bus lane for the Q70-LGA Link was a really simple improvement but it seems to have actually worked quite well. Shockingly, Queens drivers look to be respecting the bus lane!? Even though it's only an eastbound lane, some Q70 drivers use it westbound so it's kinda bi-directional!

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was murdered by ICE. His three sons called him “El mundo entero” — the whole world. They watched as their whole world died in a video posted on Facebook. Lorenzo was our neighbor and fellow Texan. He deserves justice.
Politicians decided to give curb parking away for free. Off-street garages charge fees. So at peak hours, curb parking is jampacked, garages are mostly empty, and customers complain. #Seattle has a parking MANAGEMENT problem, not a parking supply problem. It's politicians can and should fix it!

In much of the world, multifamily residential buildings with one staircase are commonplace. Yet, with a few exceptions, such buildings are illegal above three stories in the United States.

A MAJOR Win for Independent Media Against Todd Blanche!
I'm still reeling from Judge Emmet Sullivan's 48-page ruling in Katie Phang's case against the Justice Department in the Epstein Files Transparency Act case. This is MASSIVE.

Parked but not idle: The buses “will charge up their nearly 200-kilowatt-hour batteries overnight, when the power supply is at its cleanest & cheapest, then send energy back to the grid from 4 pm to 7 pm on days when the grid is strained. The district will earn revenue for the power it shares…”

So...the definition of "worker" is a person who works. Not a person who is "working class," which is a misleading and anachronistic term that is no longer really defined much by whether a person works. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/30/o...
My pessimistic runs in the opposite direction! YIMBYism seems unstoppable, while no real popular or elite movement has built for transit. Instead even our largest cities only have transit cargo cults, which build transit-shaped abominations (ESA, PABT, 5x cost Subway extensions, RLX, “light rail”).
tbh I'm kinda growing more pessimistic about the future of YIMBYism in the US. Dense housing needs high-throughput transportation infrastructure, and I just don't really think that the coalition for that really exists to provide that competently
