Kinda crazy that the "why are US elevators so expensive" issue basically got national level attention almost entirely due to one OCD YIMBY. (that's a compliment). Never doubt if one individual can change the world it seems...

“There are many differences in construction costs between the U.S. and other countries, but I’m not sure there’s anywhere else where the difference is as large as the elevator.” @stephenjacobsmith.com

Uber Eats and DoorDash hid tip buttons and set default tips below 10%. As a result, tips for delivery workers fell 79%.  In January, we made these corporations change their apps — and in the past six months, we've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets.  This is only the beginning.

Remember America. The reason it is being reported that Trump has decided not to "obliterate" Iran for the 117th time is because the oil markets open in 8 hours. We know the trades are being set up by his people & traders to short & buy the bounce that will happen during the week. War by profiteering

This is Winnie. He got so excited that he briefly forgot how to be a dog. You can laugh, but he'd like to point out you look this ridiculous all the time. 13/10 (TT: brisbreaks)

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was murdered by ICE. His three sons called him “El mundo entero” — the whole world. They watched as their whole world died in a video posted on Facebook. Lorenzo was our neighbor and fellow Texan. He deserves justice.

Politicians decided to give curb parking away for free. Off-street garages charge fees. So at peak hours, curb parking is jampacked, garages are mostly empty, and customers complain. #Seattle has a parking MANAGEMENT problem, not a parking supply problem. It's politicians can and should fix it!

A chart titled "Off-Street Parking Occupancy". The caption reads, "Most parking in off-street lots and garages is empty (less than 40% full) at all times of the day, even when on-street parking is very full. Good rundown of how single-stair reform in Connecticut was killed by the fire service: "The protracted set of approvals and reviews that single-stair reform was subjected to presented several points of potential failure, some of which lacked transparency." rpa.org/news/lab/sin...

In much of the world, multifamily residential buildings with one staircase are commonplace. Yet, with a few exceptions, such buildings are illegal above three stories in the United States.

This is Nala. She thought your face had disappeared. Turns out it was behind your hands the whole time. Incredible. 12/10 (IG: goldennala27)

a golden retriever puppy is on her back on a gray sheet, her ears flopping back and her mouth open with teeny shark teeth poking through. she has one front paw bent at the wrist, and a look of absolute exuberance on her face.

Parked but not idle: The buses “will charge up their nearly 200-kilowatt-hour batteries overnight, when the power supply is at its cleanest & cheapest, then send energy back to the grid from 4 pm to 7 pm on days when the grid is strained. The district will earn revenue for the power it shares…”

In Massachusetts, parked EVs will start feeding the grid this summer

Three electric school buses will kick-start the state’s groundbreaking vehicle-to-grid pilot program once school's out, with more EVs to be added in the…

My pessimistic runs in the opposite direction! YIMBYism seems unstoppable, while no real popular or elite movement has built for transit. Instead even our largest cities only have transit cargo cults, which build transit-shaped abominations (ESA, PABT, 5x cost Subway extensions, RLX, “light rail”).

tbh I'm kinda growing more pessimistic about the future of YIMBYism in the US. Dense housing needs high-throughput transportation infrastructure, and I just don't really think that the coalition for that really exists to provide that competently
