You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

Listening to Stephen Fry's retelling of the Odyssey, which makes the horrors of the fall of Troy almost too vivid. I thought again of Criseyde, whose story makes more and more sense all the time.

Doorbell just rang. A package from Australia. The bookseller Nicholas Pounder sent me a small press print of my Times Literary Supplement poem, "Criseyde." It's a private, gift copy, and it has brought tears to my eyes this morning, for so many reasons.

My friend @irinadumitrescu.bsky.social once suggested using the language app in a second or third language as a way of learning/reinforcing multiple languages. So if you learn Irish from a French app instead of in English, you reinforce your French skills/grammar at same time as learning Irish.
