Tetrapod Zoology ver 4 (the Tet Zoo dot com one) was 8 years old on July 31st and I totally missed it (due to meetings about DinoCon 2027 I'll have you know). But here's an article on the 7th birthday from last year.... tetzoo.com/blog/2025/7/...

Today is July 31st 2025… do you know what this means?

Collins, it seems, wouldn't allow Diagram to put their name or logo on the book's front or rear cover, or spine. So Diagram got artist Graham Rosewarne to enact a sneaky plan. Look at the markings on the tail of the Deinonychus... #books #dinosaurs #dinosaurbooks
A book I've written about a few times is Collins Guide to #Dinosaurs, written by David Lambert, published 1983. If you know this book, you'll recall that the images were compiled by The Diagram Group. Yesterday, former Art Director Mark Evans at TGM told me something I didn't know before...
Review # 1 submitted. These books are a major achievement and congrats to the author, artist and publisher. They're good but absolutely obsessed with phylogeny to the exclusion of just about everything else, and as a consequence their appeal is limited. #books #dinosaurs
Just added prints of my new coloured Styracosaurus artwork to my web store! If your life needs more elaborate neck frills, grab one from here: www.markwitton.co.uk/product-page.... (And if that's not to your fancy, there's over 140 other #paleoart pieces to choose from.)

So far highly detailed but with a bit of iffy phylogeny here and there. Also, and this is entirely personal, I personally don't care for then3d photorealistic artwork.
Just diving into this. Interesting although there's some phylogenetic stuff in here I dont love including creating new clades without formal peer review. Which as a pterosaur worker is a particular bugbear of mine.

Something else picked up at #DinoConUK 2026... massive thanks to the excellent Haidar Jaffri for gifting me his really nice Loch Ness Monster image. Haidar did the cover art for the UK edition of my book #AncientSeaReptiles and also has a section in #MesozoicArtII
American vultures have long been reported to lack a syrinx (avian vocal organ); a new study suggests that they instead have a highly modified one: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/... 🪶🧪 (📷Ibarra et al.)

It turns out that Upper Paleolithic woolly mammoth accumulations are dominated by females (70%), in contrast to naturally deposited remains being dominated by males. www.cell.com/current-biol...
Paleogenomic sex inference of mammoth remains sheds light on the anthropogenic nature of bone accumulations
Moots et al. use ancient DNA to compare woolly mammoth sex ratios from anthropogenic bone accumulations and natural depositional contexts. The results show that accumulations are female-biased, which ...

My entire stock of Ancient Sea Reptiles sold at #DinoConUK, huge thanks to those who bought it and attended my talk and signing event. During the talk I discussed new findings on ichthyosaur form and function, plesiosaur anatomy and physiology and mosasaur ecology - delivered to a packed room :)
#dinoconuk continues to be a brilliant experience. Behold the goodies acquired by myself and my collective humans. As always huge thanks to the @dinoconuk.bsky.social team
"Carnotaurus in Ancient Argentina" (This one was in development for a while, but then all i had to do was give it some harsh sunlight on the side and it was an instant fix for progression) #DinoconUK #BROSKINArt #Art #Dinosaurs #Paleoart
Costume competition parade at #dinoconuk 2026. I'm sure there'll be a much higher quality version at some point, but here you go. I cut off after the parade because the judging took a LONG time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSHk...

Just in lieu of absolutely nothing Remember that in the majority (but not all) cases, tv is the product of the work of hundreds of dedicated people. A formal creator or producer may provide oversight but they are usually not the ones drawing, animating and scripting.

Been thinking on the "T. rex parenting" talk of the last few days which has as always lit a fire of certainty in the online palaeo community. One thing I think is often lost in translating scientific concept to the interested layperson is the fact that there /1
