Was talking about Brötchen and how much her name delights me the other day, and here she is. I feel the name loses something in translation, though
New baby hippo born at Berlin Zoo. Named Brötchen. Which means "little bread roll." You're welcome
For my Swedish friends, a petition against Google AI data centres in Sweden: Den 10 augusti samlas kommunstyrelserna i Timrå och Sundsvall för att avgöra frågan om Googles nya massiva AI-center. Dags att rädda elnätet från techjättarnas exploatering! » kampanj.skiftet.org/s/MyKXHPe8
Stoppa Googles serverhallar
Utländska serverhallar slukar energi motsvarande tiotusentals villor. Nu förbereds en massiv utbyggnad, vilket sätter press på elnätet och lokalmiljön.

It is my birthday, please hire me.
If you've got a novel manuscript in need of developmental editing, a quick-but-incisive overall evaluation, or a sensitivity read, then hit me up! I've got spots open starting mid-month, and can't wait to get my grubby little hands all up in your stories.
When I order things from a shop in the UK, Royal Mail sends me emails about the delivery that appear google translated into something that isn’t Swedish but a pan-Scandinavian near miss
Every time I remember that Berlin Zoo have a baby pygmy hippo named Brötchen, I get a spike of joy
Please witness me, I have completed the project I set myself for summer leave, to go through my closets, sort out clothes for donation, and reorganise. I now have four bags to give away, one bag with stuff from the bottom of the closet to throw away, and closets are clean and not over stuffed
Jarvis-dog had surgery yesterday to remove a small growth on his eyelid that was bothering his eye. Because he is old and has suboptimal kidney values, they sent him home with a couple of days’ worth of opioids instead of other painkillers. He is very adorably high as a kite in his cone of shame 😍
Sad to hear about Sam Neill leaving us. So much of his work will always be with me
Now that I’m on summer leave I have time and energy to work on my drawing again. Still enjoying this “learning to make visual art with my hands in my middle age” stuff. Here is a drawing from my own reference photo of a bird I met a couple of weeks ago
14° C (57° F) at 8am. After last week’s heatwave we got a huge drop in temperature and massive rain since yesterday afternoon
What’s the temperature in the city you’re in right now ?
At $255/$555. Running out of OTC meds, and I need to pay for my prescription meds very soon or they won’t ship my auto refills in time. And I would very much like to purchase food this month. Reposts help, if you can’t lend a financial hand. We’re all stretched so thin…. #MutualAid #HelpFolksLive

I think this must be the knitted Icelandic sweater I got on a trip there as a kid in the mid 80s. Rediscovered it recently, and because 80s fashion was loose fitting, I can still wear it now as middle aged adult. And the wool is as new. Much tighter fit though 😂
What item of clothing have you had the longest? (A question inspired by clearing out my wardrobe earlier today.)
In other devastating art news, I read @nghivo.bsky.social’s latest Singing Hills novella, A Long and Speaking Silence. Brutal & delicately tender, of and for these current times. Listened to the audiobook while walking round the lake & had to step off the path not to alarm people with my crying
We finally watched Pluribus. It’s so damn good. I’m wildly in love with the cinematography; every single shot is so well thought through and well executed

Excited to learn A.K. Larkwood will have a new book out next year, given my feral obsession with The Serpent Gates
Started my strength training program again after having stopped last August when I was continuously exhausted after my mum’s death. Definitely obvious it’s been a while. I will be so sore tomorrow! #exercise
Realising I always just assumed writer newsletters were like companies’ marketing emails and set to no-reply
Hey did you know if you get newsletter from people like writers or artists or what and you want to say a thing you can just hit reply and tell them the thing? And then presumably you made a cool creative person happy? I think I will try doing that more often myself!
it's the long, lovely, northern summer solstice! 17 hours of daylight, light till 11pm. for those of you elsewhere, there's Sing For The Coming of the Longest Night, @krfabian.bsky.social's and my weird-ancient, poly-romantic solstice novella www.generalist.org.uk/iona/books-a...
I am now on four weeks’ leave! This spring has been a lot at work, and I felt like my leave came very suddenly in the midst of a really busy time. Will probably take some days to turn the stress off. Been having this weird feeling all evening of “what if I’m just bored and restless for four weeks?”
I love these giant warrior and tiny monk stories
Did you know that I write horny fantasy romance? Did you know that I have a duology and the sequel out and available for purchase RIGHT NOW? Did you know you can buy all of them directly from me through my website? Now you do! #Romancelandia #FantasyRomance #FemDom scarlettgaleauthor.com/shop
Beetroot! It has this yucky sweetness I can’t stand (Because I come from Skåne, the southernmost region of Sweden, I’m compelled to say I mean red beets, because just beets clearly means sugar beets, which we grow by the fuckton. But you don’t generally eat those except in the form of, well, sugar.)
What’s the most widely enjoyed food that you can’t stand, not because of allergies or anything but just because you hate it?
