i'm not ultra superstitious and i'm not the type to follow astrology but i do acknowledge the moon has lots of power mythologically, spiritually, naturally, and culturally. having space junk hit the moon is such a violation. i'm so upset.

wondering randomly who has to clean up after the horses in the chinese imperial court. people be riding horses through the outer courtyards constantly and those courts stay clean. folks be wearing floor-length capes throughout. i got questions

Okay, I am going to tell a little story. It's one I have saved for the last couple years, almost nobody knows about it. But it lives in my heart. I don't know how others will feel about it, maybe something, maybe nothing. It's about the Uncanny X-Men. 1/

gotta get offline again because i have much work to do but my heart's heavy again. maybe i'll go practice some more to lift my spirits. llms will never take this away from me. they will never threaten my work.

it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun

me practicing this solfege at a level that amounts to berklee prereqs it is wild at how vastly different yet incredibly similar our skill sets are between classical and jazz. i keep wondering if improv would be made easier if only we did more jazz keyboard harmony.

LRP: I've been asked if I feel any responsibility for books I've copyedited, content-wise. Aside from the usual sensitivity things, the answer is no. I did not build that house. Pressure washing the outside does not change what's inside.

Any and all joking aside (not that I necessarily was), no copy editor on earth can turn a bad manuscript into a good book, but a good copy editor can certainly pare away a lot of crap and help transform an irritating manuscript into a pleasing read.

Saw the new Spider-Man movie and I have to say, other than all the very spoilery stuff, my favorite part is its love letter to New York City and New Yorkers. What a fabulous choice by the director. New York Forever.

One thing all marginalized people have in common is that under white supremacy, at any given time we are whatever beneficiaries of our status quo need us to be in order to advance their rhetoric but at no particular crucial point ever are we real actualized voice-having human beings.

It's especially galling that Haley Stevens is portraying herself as the great protector of the Jews in her campaign against a Muslim candidate, given that in 2022 she beat a wonderful Jewish Congressman in a costly primary in part by accusing him of being insufficiently pro-Israel.

LRP: eating real wasabi is incredible and the spice is akin to a beautiful, painful windowpane clarity in your sinuses. you don't need much. the people should do what they want with their food. put wasabi in soy sauce, sure. the fake stuff? eat as much as you want. i've been known to eat it plain.

Wasabi, or "Japanese horseradish," is a plant native to Japan with a spicy kick that hits you in the back of the nose. Since it’s pricey to get outside Japan, many restaurants abroad use a fake "wasabi" that’s nothing more than horseradish and mustard with food coloring.

Is Putting Wasabi in Soy Sauce Rude? - Unseen Japan

A lot of people - both in and out of Japan - do it. But is it "rude"? A new manga on wasabi and soy sauce elicits strong reactions.
