We use pyControl for freely moving tasks in mice and it’s excellent! Easy to code, customize, reliable, and a good user interface.

I know this is partly in jest, but the takeaway from the first paper here (and plenty of others like it) is that theta and breathing rhythms co-exist. Most LFP’s aren’t “just” related to breathing :) www.nature.com/articles/s41...
