Bacteria lack a mitotic spindle—how do they segregate chromosomes? 🤓 Using quantitative microscopy and modeling, we show that polysome (mRNA–ribosome) dynamics contribute to chromosome separation in E. coli, but septum closure and potentially DNA entropic segregation mechanisms are also involved.
