If you love long baseball games, may I introduce you to the joys of five day test match cricket.
ARC says Discovery Projects outcomes will be tomorrow (Tuesday). Linkage Projects (2025, round 1) on Wed. Over past ~year, it's often been at about 11am (Canberra). My bot will pick up the change to RMS & post immediately. ARC should email outcomes to lead CIs, but might take an 1hr or so for DPs
Google Scholar has introduced a 'Sh-index' metric that scores papers higher if you are first or last author. Apart from the fact metrics are generally bad, this one explicitly punishes PIs who often collaborate, publishing with 2 or 3 equal PIs at the end of the list. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Google Scholar tool gives extra credit to first and last authors
Researchers welcome the initiative, but say it doesn’t go far enough to capture the nuance of researcher productivity and impact.

I finally wrote some basic documentation for OCC, including some nice (I think) interactive examples in the web browser using the virtual file system in WASM. Proof of concept for tutorials/teaching in the future I hope! getocc.xyz

Every now and then I might post important concepts on single crystal diffraction analysis from my recent review. Today, this wrapped-up version of figure 1 reminds us what we lose in the process, and what we actually gain at the end: a model 💎 #crystallography #MOFs pubs.rsc.org/en/content/a...

Identifying and Characterising Flexible Crystals
Mechanically flexible single crystals are emerging as a useful class of materials due to their unique combination of crystallinity and molecular-scale responses to applied mechanical stress. In this t...

OK #chemsky do your thing. I have an immediate PhD vacancy working on a MOF / crystallography / electron diffraction project with Syngenta. Home fees and stipend are covered. Spread the word!
Here is another great example of how broken the ARC system is. Our DP was ranked: detailed 1: ⅓. Detailed 2: 1/5. General 1: 3/51 General 2 (carriage) 34/48!
