This is the highest-resolution view of the surface of the Sun. Ever. Taken by the NSF's Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, features as small as 19 km across can be resolved. The wispy things are magnetic field boundaries formed by Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities. The island of Ireland for scale.

I was thinking the other day that we haven't really talked about how Mojtaba Khamenei is obviously just a brain in a jar at this point.

I've done a bit of a Wikiwalk about this and had the amazing revelation that one of the French agents behind the bombing later became a wildlife photographer and had one of his photos published under a pseudonym in a calendar for...Greenpeace. Most of them had been sold by the time they realised.

Just finished reading King of Kings (about the fall of the Shah) and I really can recommend it. It came out last year but it's exceptionally timely given the current crisis in the Gulf, all the more so considering that the Americans seem to have learnt very little since.

Just very confidently explained to someone that Paddy McGuinness was the former deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland. "Let the Sinn see the Féin."

This person is a 1st Amendment supporter which I am surprised about given that it does allow the government to declare a State of Emergency during a "time of war" even if the war in question is one in which the state is a non-belligerent.

Like a dog returning to its own vomit.
