Oh wow. This analysis makes SO much sense! What a great piece. @katemanne.bsky.social is brilliant. katemanne.substack.com/p/a-culture-...
A Culture Hooked on Generative AI is a Culture that Misses Female Sycophants
And we have missed a central reason why AI is a feminist issue

If AI mania is making you feel like you’re going insane, this article might help. > I am very confident that almost every report at a company about “massive AI productivity gains” is untrue as a matter of brute fact. ludic.mataroa.blog/blog/ai-mani...

TIL that double-sided DVDs exist. I don’t think I’ve ever come across one. 📀
Some very early DVD releases, circa 1997, did not have the complete movie on one side. A Time to Kill and Se7en are examples ones that you had to flip. The data capacity of DVDs increased somewhat as the format developed and most movies then could fit on one side.
The corporate urge to use nouns as verbs and verbs as nouns will be the cause of my demise
Every summer I repost this article on how to spot drowning. Please read it and pass on. In the last few years I’ve had SIX messages from people who saved a kid’s life after clicking on the link from my feed. slate.com/technology/2...
Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

One thing I’ve learned from social media this week is that London needs more blimps
It’s 17° outside so why is it THIRTY TWO DEGREES in my BEDROOM 😮💨
I've open-sourced a Go caching library I've been working on. It does request coalescing (duplicate call suppression). It's like a blend of sync.Map and singleflight.Group. github.com/jakewright/g...

I really think it should be illegal to wear earphones while driving
A few months ago Apple stopped releasing iOS 18 updates for devices that support iOS 26. But I knew if I waited it out they’d be forced to issue security updates eventually. 😼 Be warned though that this update re-enables automatic updates!

Those network-controlled PDUs are expensive. Is there any reason why I shouldn't just buy a bunch of cheap IKEA smart plugs and do this?
Going to do a short live stream later. I’ve been buying more obsolete tech (modem) that we can talk about.
MIDI 1.0 is the gold standard for protocols. Introduced in 1983, still fit for purpose 43 years later. You can take a synth or a drum machine from the 80s, connect it to a brand new keyboard or controller, and it’ll just work. 👏
Denon apparently forcing HEOS account creation to use all AVR network features. I already have updates disabled on my receiver but I might remove its internet access entirely. old.reddit.com/r/hometheate...

I have long believed that tech companies tend to over-hire. I expect we’ll continue to see redundancies and layoffs attributed to “AI” but these will either be (a) due to misplaced confidence in the abilities of AI, or (b) because the company had too many employees in the first place.
Tried out some other text editors (want simple, lightweight, not IDEs) including Zed and Nova. Both buggy. Sublime Text—after nearly 20 years—still seems like the most solid & reliable option. 💪
