Science stuff, but not a scientist. Old skoool DCist (RIP!) and former Eater DC. Baltimoron at heart. Very random posts about food, art, climate, science, publishing, and journalism.

Some Personal News + an ask: I’m going out to work the harvest at a winery in OR! My dogsitter fell through, now I need someone who wants to stay in my house & take care of the sweetest dog. Ideally Gabe could stay here, but I can also bring him to anyone who lives within a day’s drive of DC.

Could you or someone you know use a free place to stay in DC for a couple months? And also love dogs?

Lonnie Bunch, secretary of the Smithsonian, curated a 250 collection at the Castle. The only Asian representation in it was Daniel Inouye’s Medal of Honor, which was shown alongside other medals from underrepresented folks. There def. could have had something from Chinese railroad workers.

Hijos del Maiz tacos. Just a little trailer at a Shell station, but these nixtamalized corn tortillas are 💯. Tortillas are tender and not typical crumbly/grainy. Looking forward to one of the options with blue corn tortillas and their tortas. I overheard mention of chicharron during cooler weather.

Oh god, I just realized a possible reason why the video to be shown in the Lincoln Undercroft won’t be done until 2027. Someone must have asked it be redone because woke and wants to show revisionist history minimizing the role of slavery in thr Civil War. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Trump orders Smithsonian to post warnings about 'inaccurate' US history

The Trump administration has often accused the world's largest research museum of harbouring an anti-American bias.
