We @acadiacenter.bsky.social plotted the structural shift in gas commodity prices that ratepayers in Massachusetts have been exposed to since the import/export shift in 2016. Night and day. We used this chart to help defeat a pipeline amendment this past week - full piece will be posted soon.

Natural gas utilities will pass these wholesale price spikes straight through to ratepayers by raising retail prices. Before the late Obama years the US exported almost no natural gas, so domestic prices were insulated from global markets

Does anyone on #EnergySky know if tariffs pre-NAFTA or any other period have been imposed on imports of *electricity* from Canada or Mexico? I’m guessing not since MWh are not a product in the same way as fuel commodities, but…better to be safe than sorry.
