I didn’t anticipate the persistent antagonism toward the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) transmission line. B/c power is simultaneously being exported back to Quebec via a different intertie the import/export exchange has been cast as “greenwashing”—which is completely & utterly unfounded.
At a time when affordability remains the focus of conversations about energy in New England, this report recommends public financing strategies for transmission development that have the potential to substantially reduce the total cost of capital—savings that would lower electricity customer bills.

"Heat pumps just shift gas burning to the power station." Wrong. Even if 100% of electricity came from gas, a heat pump at SCOP 3.8 uses 51% less gas than a boiler. At a terrible SCOP 2.5, still 25% less. David MacKay made this point in 2008. The maths hasn't changed.
🧵 So much behind-the-meter solar and so little load today, it looks like ISO New England chose to curtail imports, including the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) transmission line, rather than gas resources. There’s only a GW of gas production, and NECEC capacity is usually at 1.1 GW.
