A little to post this here but: for the third time in less than a year, President Trump on Monday issued an executive order that calls for American children to be routinely immunized against fewer diseases, as they are in countries like Denmark. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/10/w...

It is not clear whether the order, the president’s third to address the topic in less than a year, has any legal power.

Workplaces look for cheaper AI as ‘tokenmaxxing’ fades as a corporate fad

A corporate fad of “tokenmaxxing” on artificial intelligence technology is hitting its limits as workplaces throwing AI at everything are seeing the costs rise without a similar spike in productivity.

Is NY Times going to report on sex lives of every democratic candidate, going back decades? Is there any sense that the sex lives of politicians are not the most important issues? I get the fact that voyeurism appeals to some, but the associated hypocrisy alone is off-putting.

Congrats to Bhattacharya on his “anti-woke” crusade! In 2025, the no. of investigators funded by NIH fell for the 1st time in a decade—a 4% fall in research grant PIs, a 10% fall in fellowship recipients 🚨There was a 10% fall in Black research grant PIs & a 41% fall in Black fellows ja.ma/4vnpzMY

In 2025, the number of investigators funded by the National Institutes of Health (#NIH) declined for the first time in a decade, with a 4% reduction in research grant principal investigators and a 10% decline in fellowship recipients.

Reductions were most pronounced among investigators from groups historically underrepresented in science, including a 10% decline in Black research grant PIs and a 41% decline in Black fellows.

Hispanic investigators and fellows also experienced notable declines. These trends may have implications for the future diversity and capacity of the US biomedical research workforce.

Would really love to know how they arrived at this figure of $1tr a year to create a non-China critical minerals supply chain, which seems off by several orders of magnitude. The entire global fossil fuels sector takes in less than $1tr/yr of investments! www.ft.com/content/c6c1...
