pigs... in there?

remember that guy who got shot and they made an ai video of him forgiving the guy who killed him at the trial. if i die, please don't make a video saying it's ok the guy shot me

Per the last RT this is a v reasonable position to land on, what ends up being a problem is people who cultivate ignorance and then still spend all day on the soapbox getting things wrong. It's important to be a well-informed hater so that you can hate with precision.

with all respect: i'm losing touch with what AI does because i have no interest in it and it's not my business. nobody worries about me losing touch with developments in particle physics or artificial bull insemination. it's not my fault the richest guys on earth want me to make their toy my life

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

I really wasn’t trying to start a fight with Prof. Bender but now that she has created a long thread subtweeting me and her disciples are all yelling at me, let me just say that this is the crux right here. She seems to respond as though I am describing something a priori impossible.

someone explained to me that altitude sickness is just caused by your body being tricked into not breathing on autopilot enough. you can just fix it by breathing manually. you just have to think about breathing. idiotic. would rather just perish.

ended up staying in co-working accommodation mostly because of the location and the cost, but I've found to my disgust that I'm quite enjoying going to the "office", having a proper desk and chair rather than working in cafés and pounding back soft drinks, saying good morning to the same people.

Similarly, the conference "Young Labour " disco , a fun event with the Sugarbabes with DJ sets from Emily Thornberry + Culture Sec Lisa Nandy was funded by TikTok. They pay for access, Nandy is in charge of u16 ban/regulation of TikTok

A small example of how Labour Conference works- the "Transport Reception " with the Secretary of State isnt held by Transport Unions, its funded by Amey , a privatiser "named and shamed" for breaking minimum wage laws this year. The "shame" doesn't stop Ministers doing their gigs.

think Amol Rajan might be the only celebrity more obviously 'imposed' on us than Matt Forde. took Progress & the agency 15yrs to make Forde a thing but he did eventually get fans (awful wankers who talk about 'box set politics'). only 2 people on the planet who like Rajan are Rajan & Rupert Murdoch

www.theguardian.com/wellness/ng-... I like discussing books (obviously) but never really got on with book clubs unless you get a really good crowd who you're friends with anyway. Same with writing and poetry groups. I don't have the tolerance to listen to people talk shit past a certain point.

‘I will see you in the parking lot after this’: when book clubs get dramatic

Book clubs can be fun, fulfilling and interesting – but many members have seen a meeting or group go down in flames

There is no counterargument that satisfies his followers because his argument is elaborate question-begging and him and his followers don’t know enough about the real world to see this. There is no counterargument to “a malevolent supernatural entity would be very scary and dangerous”. It would!

I'd think if Yud was wrong about AI being a potential threat, *someone* would be able to construct an actually decent counterargument against him This "what a weirdo", "haha so dumb" shit would obvs exist either way, but there would *also* be, like, somebody who could formulate a coherent rebuttal
