Excellent piece (and great pop-based subheads!) from @leonoramerry.bsky.social on state of public satisfaction with NHS in 1997 and 2024 and the difficulties in improving satisfaction now compared to 30 years ago

NEW: Can things only get better for the NHS? @leonoramerry.bsky.social looks at the similarities and differences between the health service in 1997 and in 2024 and describes why improving the public's satisfaction with the NHS may be tougher this time. www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/news-item/th...

Why oh why do the Rest of History guys insist on ‘doing an accent’ (latest is Northern Irish; “oh well done Tom! Have you been practising your Paisley?”)? At best an irritating 1950s throwback by posh English sniggering at the ‘funny’ accent, at worst plain offensive.

Saw the Odyssey last night - not over impressed (awkwardly reminded of Monty Python’s ‘Run away! Run away!’ bit from Holy Grail). But also reminded me of brilliantly illustrated book I got aged 6.

Is welfare spending ''out of control''? It's estimated to be 11.1 per cent of GDP this financial year. That's just 1.1 per cent of GDP higher than in 2007-08, and total welfare spending has actually fallen by 0.9 per cent of GDP since 2012-13 ⤵️
