Now that I'm home from Gen Con and can brain, I promised @jasonbulmahn.bsky.social and others that I would give my thoughts about #13Omens from @paizo.com that just had its play test debut. I thought about this game on the whole as a player, a GM, a rules designer, and as an adventure author: ⬇️

13 Omens was built, from the ground up, with a very specific design goal, allowing all of the rules and game choices to flow from those objectives with intentionality and purpose. Why is it so rules light, because if a rule did not serve the goals of the overall horror narrative, it got tossed.

Strange thing occurred to me the other day. Until the start of Gen Con, I had personally taught every single person who knows how to Host a 13 Omens game.. in the entire world. Not really unusual for a new game I suppose, but it was a odd thing to realize. Maybe that's just me.

It's really weird to have a game i designed releasing at Gen Con and not be there to see it. Hope folks are enjoying 13 Omens. If you're at Gen Con, swing by the Paizo booth (203) to grab a copy, and if not, you can get the pdfs at 13omens.com And you know... let me know what you think?
