It’s also worth pointing out that Substack still doesn’t have a disability category, and it prevents free newsletters from showing in the leaderboard or best seller ranking. Disabled creators aren’t particularly welcomed there, they’re just priced out of the alternatives.

Just a gentle reminder that many disabled creators can’t paywall their newsletters without losing their disability benefits. They’re producing content entirely for free. Most Substack alternatives charge creators who don’t paywall, and disabled people can’t afford that. We need better options!

To write in the classic high fantasy mould, you need not be hung up on food specifically, but there must be SOME very mundane thing you're sincerely interested in and prepared to describe in excruciating detail every time it comes up. Clothing. Furniture. Architecture. It doesn't work without it.

"Why can't you just appreciate how revolutionary the job-taking, environment-degrading, information-shredding, technology-hoarding, economy-swamping machine is?" My brother in Christ, there may indeed be a revolution in part because of "AI," but it might not be the one you wanted.

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

It is far too easy for those in a position of privilege to judge the actions of others through the lens of that privilege, supporting laws and rules the protect it while vilifying those who don't have it. Honor is not to blindly follow rules, but to see them for what they are, and who they benefit.
