Perfect example this year, where D.C. United is on course for an 11/18 wild card match that would put them one win away from possibly being away the same night as the NWSL Championship. If they were like 6-7 points better this season, a final at Audi would be a major ops ordeal at best.

Over the last few years one of the pertinent questions for possible NWSL championship hosts who share facilities is "is their MLS team any good?" and if the answer was yes that makes it REALLY hard to host championship there

Premier League Season Previews are back, covering all 20 clubs, out August 17. Last year, we called Cherki's £34m City move "a bit of a heist" and said Reijnders' £50m fee wasn't worth it. Cherki had one of the league's best creative seasons; Reijnders didn't back his fee. We got both calls right.

📰Gotham FC has loaned forward Mak Whitham to USL DC Power FC through the end of the 2026. Whitham, 16, is the youngest player to appear in a #NWSL regular season match. She remains under contract with Gotham through 2028. 1/

Really good nuts-and-bolts info here, including preseason start dates that really hammer home how tricky next season is going to be for the entire NWSL

The #NWSL plans to kick off its 2027 season on Feb. 11 in LA, 3 days before the Super Bowl across town. It's the earliest NWSL start ever, necessary due to ~7 weeks off for the World Cup. More on NWSL realities of February, World Cup...and scheduling as MLS flips its calendar:

Adrián González says the Spirit "can take also a lot of positive things, even [with the loss]," but adds that he sees "the next step" for the team being how patient they can be in the final third.

Wave leaning on every game-slowing trick in the book at the moment, and tbh I'm a little confused by it. They've been managing the game rather comfortably if we're being honest, not sure there was much Spirit momentum to bust up. Then again, Spirit at Audi, there's always something in stoppage time

I think it's been fair to say over the last 4 games, this is showing not so much in fatigue as it is in lack of time to use training sessions to refine and adjust their approach. It's recovery, one session, and gameday over and over

The Washington Spirit since July 3 (30 days) W vs. Houston W vs. NC L vs. Gotham W vs. Boston W vs. Denver W vs. Utah ? vs. San Diego That's a whopping 7 (!) games in that stretch, AKA a game every ~4.3 days on average

San Diego CBs have Paños take a seat in the 3rd minute so van Zanten can come have something addressed with her eye and not leave the pitch. Spirit bench very aware of this end-around to avoid being down to 10, and they're not too happy.
