I'm happy to see this work led by @abhirupdikshit.bsky.social published. Analysis of these global datasets show that the occurrence of flash droughts amplifies the severity of fires. This is something fire agencies should account for when planning their fire response strategies. @ccrc.bsky.social

In our new paper we show the need for very high resolution (~200m) atmosperhic models to capture thunderstorm downdrafts that generate extreme wind gusts and that the gust speed increases faster than the downdraft speed. 🧪 doi.org/10.1016/j.wa...

Congrats to PhD student Shankar Sharma on his latest paper. The IMERG satellite precipitation captures the urban influence. This is coming from the microwave sensors and is present even after accounting for changes in the microwave sensor constellation.
