My grandma died, it was natural and normal and completely devastating and horrific for us but she was 94 and died in relative comfort. I can’t stop thinking about what it would have been like had this been done to us, rather than just happened as a matter of course.

One hour until I turn 36. Best year of my life so far capped by maybe one of the worst months of my life. With some really, really fucking beautiful moments sprinkled in. So fucking much is ending for me but a few new things are starting which is welcome

Half the vegetables my Patti likes are like okra and bitter gourd and the daals and sambhars are so fucking bland I’m literally losing weight this trip just because eating is kind of painful.

I’m not writing publicly again but I am writing — prolifically and every day for a very small audience of friends and family. I won’t go public again tomorrow but it will be soon. When I do it will be on jayatime.substack.com

Sometimes my 95-yo granddad will drop an insane detail, like how South Indians were forced to eat wheat bc the British were exporting all the rice during WWII, but the story is always ultimately something like the time he made a nice cup of coffee in 1945 that someone appreciated
