Even if there wasn't a massive environmental cost to these policies, it's simply terrible economics. You don't double down on producing a product there's no market for. Running telephone lines in the global south was eclipsed by cell phones in just a few years. Billions just skipped that step.

It's maddening to realize that these ideas are being actively ignored by those with the power to implement them. Canada is doubling down on the 20th century when the rest of the world except the US is leaving it behind. youtu.be/YGjAAYkIlc0?...

Had a funny moment out at the beach yesterday with 6 yo grandson. He asked me where sand came from & I talked about rocks & water & erosion and then about the inland sea in Alberta & finally about the ice age glaciers. He looked at me and said "poppa, you're blowing my mind here"

If I need to spend $20,000 over the next 10 years keeping my 2012 non connected Tucson on the road I will absolutely do that. Buttons and no 24/7 surveillance. *It won't be near that but it would still be worth it.

Companies are all in on selling folks the idea that it’s in your best interest for your products to “know you” as if you are getting a dedicated servant but what you are really getting is a spy.

Hacking networks is a crime punishable by many years in jail. And yet apparently, so far at least, AI gets a pass. Just like with proven, outright theft of intellectual property, copyrighted material, the production of CSAM & more. Why the fuck is this allowed at all.

Over the past week, three AI models have -- all on their own -- hacked into other orgs' computer networks. Silicon Valley is panicked.... not about AI going rogue, but about the *possibility of AI being regulated.* www.nytimes.com/2026/07/30/t...

I've never had rice & beans I liked. (Haven't been to places that are known for them) But these were really, really good. (Celery, carrot, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, sweet red pepper, garlic, rice, black beans, cumin, beef bouillon, smoked paprika, pepper, oregano, worcestershire sauce)

Cast iron pan with rice & beans (1/2 are missing)

On my bike commute today I saw an $8000 Kei truck sitting next to an $80,000+ 'truck' and you can easily fit more stuff in the back of the Kei. And the Kei runs at 6l/100km while the asshat truck runs at something like 3 times that.
