It’s unwise to get your conception of genocide from people who use it as a weapon

I’m out. This site is about to become even grosser than it already is
Why no Nazis? Bluesky isn’t doing anything about antisemitism here anyway. I find being a Jewish person here as bad (or worse) than my experience on Twitter/X around the time I left there about 3-4 years ago. I will happily send you screenshots directly. Every single day.
Thanks. Yes, that's what I was trying to say, but took too long to get there. Our politics community is strong, and I'd love for us to expand into new communities. Science and sports have already taken off. Birding, gardening, K-pop, we're open to all (except nazis and jerks).
The US is a country that loves history and hates supporting the historical discipline. Which explains a lot about where the country is politically
"History involves sorting and organizing hundreds of thousands of facts" I remain astounded by how loud and wrong people are about what history actually is.
Honestly I’m not sure it’s worth staying on this platform.
I’m very glad to see this conversation happening. I feel like I’ve been yelling this into the void for more than a decade now. It’s no mistake that Trump and Sanders emerged simultaneously as populist poles as democracy came under direct assault.
👇🎯 “Am I liberal or conservative?” & “Am I a populist who wants to exploit the imperial presidency for my political ends?” are two separate axes, & this is going to be one of our most serious obstacles to serious pro-democracy institutional reforms. There are leftist populist authoritarians, too.
Leftism and progressivism is about a strong relationship with facts and expertise. Populism is about slogans and dressing up scapegoating in social justice rhetoric. Populism is about branding to legitimize grievance. Leftism and progressivism is about solidarity, not gaslighting.
Teaching critical thinking: What evidence do you have to support your claim? How do you know that evidence is true? Have you considered the opposing evidence? How do you know that evidence is false?
I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Russia spread antisemitic libels a century ago to destabilize western democracies. Surely it's not going on again now. Russia doesn't do the same thing over and over on the battlefield why on earth would you think that
Well, this explains a lot of your behavior. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/21/b...
Here's my working theory on populism. It is a contagion that isn't bound by left or right. At this moment, like many previous historical moments, the US inflamed with it.
So when you see the know-nothingism, bigotry, and authoritarianism you're used to seeing on the right on the left, too, it creates cognitive dissonance. It shouldn't. Because we shouldn't take any ideological branding at face value. Bernie, Mamdani, Hasan. These are populists. They aren't leftwing.
Why can’t you be more like the fascists over there?” the very serious man remarked
This shows the gap between GOP & Dem. messaging. The Republicans NEVER stop pressing their false narratives. They bang the drums over & over. The Dems make their case & move on. They should have been non-stop pummeling Trump for Covid (and 1/6) for years, never letting anyone forget these sins.

We need to talk about this more since the topic today *again* is how toxic this platform is. extremism.gwu.edu/ccp-influenc...

Populists are only about seizing power, not helping people. Their words are always empty. Populists only deliver instability and destruction. When the pain is great enough, leftwing populist adherents will learn the same lessons as their rightwing populist cousins over in MAGA.
“We just want to feed people” is the same shit as “we just want healthcare” is the same shit as “we just want to stop the genocide.” It’s shibboleths all the way down, all designed to keep people from ever actually having a real conversation about the underlying topic.
The AI bubble light is flashing
B of A DESK: Our team is modeling that $NVDA "will generate ~$667B in Free Cash Flow in the years ~CY27 + CY28 (I see the stock trading around 13x CY27 P/E using buyside estimates we picked up lately). The 'AI trade' needs more buy tickets, less manifestos and less … selling."
Almost like it’s the exactly the same playbook when there’s a war involving complex geopolitics and a minority they don’t like
DSA-types really undermine their credibility when they skip right past disagreement over *how* to ensure the most people get fed and accuse people with practical concerns of being pro-famine.
Also maybe Kat Abughazaleh is just a know-nothing grievance farmer and bullshitter who should be blocked by everyone with critical thinking skills on this platform. We don’t get rid of populist pollution by engaging with it. Starve it at the source.
if there’s anything I would want to drill into the public consciousness it’s that there are almost always like a dozen ways to approach any given problem and some of them will be more effective than others and we have to stop acting like the questions around it are against fixing the issue
This is because there are active foreign influence campaigns on this site.
Responses to this in the negative at the time of this writing have all been anti-Stevens. One is from an account dedicated specifically to hating Stevens. No one has threatened not to support El-Sayed.
El-Sayed's results here - trailing Rogers by 10 - is the worst performance by a Democratic candidate in any Senate battleground general election poll this entire cycle.
This anonymous account thinks they are entitled to credibility. Let’s talk about this phenomenon. ! Saying you’re “antifascist” from behind a mask carries about as much weight as saying you’re a pineapple. Neither measure actions in the real world. And both can sound silly depending on context.
If you're a Certified Holocaust Understander, maybe you shouldn't be calling antifascists Nazis.
Simply inverting hierarchies of power and oppression doesn’t make you a leftist. It makes you a populist. And populists are grievance-addicted authoritarians who destroy democracies if left unchecked. Push back on the false leftwing branding.
If you change any sentence by swapping the word AIPAC with “Jewish lobbying” I guarantee you all these so-called progressives sound like American History X
I appreciate that @hcrichardson.bsky.social has pointed out what many on Bluesky are missing: That Gov. Bashear cannot simply replace McConnell and it’s smart strategy to leave that Senate seat open, depriving Senate GOP of a vote (and rules cmte chairmanship) And keeping the focus on the coverup.
Just because you’re told repeatedly that something is a genocide doesn’t mean it is one. Repeated inaccurate information gets believed all the time to fuel grievance movements. This is a key mechanism of populism.
The DSA are a bunch of fakes. Leftism is about solidarity. These populists dicks abandon solidarity with *everyone* when the fascists approach. Cowards and liars all.
