It feels especially fitting that this SCMS, where I'm still floating from the surprise of hearing myself cited by @drfrancessmith.bsky.social, is taking place in the same setting as 'Source Code': "This feels like exactly where we're supposed to be, doesn't it?" #SCMS25 🏳️⚧️🎓🏳️🌈
Getting ready to represent the Bobcats at this shindig. Session G14. Swissotel, Geneva room. #SCMS25 🏳️⚧️🎓🏳️🌈
In the very first paper in the very first panel I attended this year, I heard myself cited for the first time in my life! And paired with @caelkeegan.bsky.social 🤩 Honored to be included in Frances Smith's brilliant work on "Queering Sparkle in Contemporary Teen Media" #SCMS25
SCMSers, please come to our panel tomorrow if you're able to: Friday, April 4th, 11:00 am -12:45 pm. Session G14. We'll be in the Geneva room in the Swissotel, so pop across the street from the Fairmont! And don't forget to check out the @scmsqtc.bsky.social zine! #SCMS25 🏳️⚧️🎓🏳️🌈
We're very excited to see many of you at this year's conference in Chicago #SCMS2025. We've prepared the following zine with information about all the panels with queer and trans themes. (Sorry if we missed anything; the program is long!) Download the QueerZine here: wetransfer.com/downloads/4b...
Is there a cute, cozy, and accessible queer bar in downtown Chicago? Looking for recs to hold the @scmsqtc.bsky.social annual drinks @scmstudies.bsky.social #SCMS2025
I've been accepted to contribute a chapter on auteurism in the upcoming Handbook of Trans Cinema! This is the same editor I'm already working with on the Handbook of Trans Sci-Fi. The CfP has been extended to 3/6 and it's already full of awesome people: call-for-papers.sas.upenn.edu/cfp/2022/07/...
I am a contributing dramaturg in this forthcoming anthology from Bloomsbury, releasing this fall but available for pre-order! The piece I introduce feels especially timely -- a poignant reminder that our ancestors not only long preceded us but remain remarkably close to us even, and especially, now.
Update: ALL classes are cancelled and they sent staff home to work remotely because the internet is also down on campus 😮
Day 1! We did an icebreaker with the stories of our (chosen) names. (Btw, a lot of them didn't know their names' origins or meanings 🤷). Only got to project Bastian here for the first class because the power went out on the whole campus! I held the second one in the dark. QU cancelled classes til 2!
I know David Lynch passed away several days ago, but this felt right for my first post here. Mulholland Drive was pivotal in shaping my professional path. It led to my first major peer-reviewed publication and put me on the map, so to speak. Lynch's work changed everything for me.
