A couple months ago a scene from a microdrama circulated where the actors flubbed the take, the director called go again, and they redid the scene—the whole thing just dumped into the series without being edited. This is somehow like that, but also chopped within an inch of its life
Do people just not write dialogue anymore? This entire scene feels like did a first draft with a bunch of "[insert joke line here]".
Amazon has greenlit an improv'd sitcom from Paul Scheer and June Diane Raphael called DINKs. I was at a taping of an early version of the project 3 years ago. I wrote about that (anonymized for NDA reasons) here. Never seen anything like it lareviewofbooks.org/article/the-...

The Times should be required to interview all 50,000+ McMorrow voters before they talk to a single person who may or may not regret their vote in 2024
All over the business web you can see people quoting Steven Spielberg saying "The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves" with no citation. Potentially fishy, but nope! Time 5/18/97 "Peter Pan Grows Up"
A couple years ago I was so enraged at the locked toiletries at CVS that I broke down and ordered some from Amazon. Now once a week they send me an email saying "We found something you might like" and it is deodorant. Passive aggressive "We can smell you from here" Ormund Hightower–ass company.
It's August and you know that means: online trainings for the fall term. This year, the AI–updated advising training attempted to vary the language between the written, the audio, and the quiz, introducing a contradiction in what the legal requirements for mandatory reporters are. Let's get sued!
Got a pretty convincing scam call—ostensibly from a national bank, my ID had used to open an account and then to buy firearms. I would reported to HSI. I would need to open an incident report with FBI. They could "transfer" me. Professional sounding. Anyway, that's not how banks or the FBI work.
TODAY: @milesklee.bsky.social celebrates a high point of cinema, that Orson Welles frozen peas commercial. Welles has "no cause to give even a microscopic fraction of a fuck about how the finished product will turn out. He insists on integrity anyway." flaminghydra.com/a-celebratio...
A Celebration of Orson Welles’s Frozen Pea Commercial Outtakes
I never let a July pass me by without revisiting the infamous 1970 bootleg audio of Orson Welles attempting to record voiceover narration for advertisements for various foods, beginning with frozen pe...

Legends like Bari Weiss and Tony Dookie Pill. The kind of independence that got most of 60 Minutes fired.
From Van Gogh's shoes/Heidegger to Warhol's shoes/Jameson to PAWNSHOP. This is a membership-forward sportsbar in a former pawnshop with a James Beard–winning chef. The convergence of immersion and optimization. Maybe I'll get drunk and pretend to be Derrida and write it up as The Truth in Plating

This week's House of the Dragon asks an important question: Does anybody here know how to play this game.......of thrones?
Absolutely not the point but I doubt Rhoback is glad to be the unofficial sponsor of this video
Rep. Max Miller: "My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?"
Oh, you're telling me that the road to fascist appeasement goes through transphobic bullshit? Ya don't say
I cannot wait to find out what this 4–minute version of "Street Hassle" chosen to lead off the album might be

Look, shuffle, as an old white guy I know you've got to serve me a certain amount of Yo La Tango. But in this heat "Autumn Sweater" is just cruel
It is just a job and it is just a corporation. Tell Trump to fuck off, exit the partnership, and do something else. Will your life suck? Maybe! Will the place get liquidated? Maybe! That's the price of principle and power.
Trump “came up with a completely false quote saying I acknowledged things I never said. “My god." — Brad Karp, then the chairman of the law firm 2/2
Four people, including Tenney, have been given the award. On Friday I became the 5th.
*I am also hearing that the VANDALS took the handles*
Trump: “I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro on the Reflecting Pool. I don’t know what she was thinking? To me, it was a pure case of VANDALISM, that included the grass, which had a big 86 47 emblazoned …There may have been some contractor difficulty, but major damage was caused by VANDALS!”
