It's just another form of football, so they didn't need an association team really, as the sport of rugby league itself has had a big local following over the years. The likes of Widnes and Wigan et el have been at various points the best football teams in the world.

A really interesting part of football history is how association football developed in some Lancashire and Yorkshire towns while rugby league football was prevalent in others nearby, and remains so to this day. You'd think a town as big as Warrington is now would have a pro soccer team.

The wider popularity of soccer, especially since the global growth of the English Premier League, means it seems unusual for big English towns or cities such as Warrington, Wakefield and others to not have fully professional soccer teams, but they do have professional football teams.

The "Man City-bound" line in Cavan Sullivan stories now has a new element of doubt to it, but the 16-year-old makes his #USMNT debut tonight. He's been one of the best players in MLS these past few months.

Good to hear @liberopodcast.com cover Allardyce - England. Always thought it didn't warrant a sacking. The Telegraph "investigation" was a weird set up to get him sacked for no reason, and Allardyce ultimately didn't say anything as bad as the paper originally suggested anyway.
