All over the place leaders of humanities departments have had to justify our existence to central administrators as if the university AS SUCH does not owe its very origins to humanistic disciplines.

Was in a meeting earlier today trying to explain to the provost the value of the humanities & history. Completely uninterested & dismissive. I guess this is to be expected but nevertheless it's depressing how impervious university administration can be to all of our evidence and arguments.
