Michigan State Senator from the 15th district. I'm fighting for clean water, equal rights, and to help people out of poverty. I like Great Lakes, human rights, free speech, and clean energy.

If you're voting today in Michigan, and you want to: ✔️ secure universal health coverage ✔️ protect social security ✔️ protect clean water & clean air ✔️ stop Trump's militarism We need to make sure that Republican Rogers - and what he stands for - doesn't win.

Michigan has the worst protections in the nation for people facing collection for unsecured debt. More of your income is taken, nothing in your bank account is protected, and debt collectors can even take your earned income tax credit (money the state sends to the lowest-income workers). 1/

More news from MI's budget on housing: I am very excited that we continued our investment in permanent supportive housing with $5M this year. This is an incredibly important investment that helps people that are chronically unhoused. www.csh.org/2026/07/mich...

Today, Michigan's new Housing Opportunity Credit was signed into law. My bill (SB 966) was part of bipartisan legislation that will boost financing for affordable housing developments and is estimated to add 2,500 units a year in the coming years. www.crainsdetroit.com/real-estate/...

What Michigan’s new housing laws do to boost building, cut costs

Finally. The courts finally ruled on a time-sensitive case to determine if the Michigan House Republicans had to follow the Constitution Art 4, Sec 33. MI House Republicans violated the state Constitution to withhold bills that passed both chambers in what amounted to a veto from the House Clerk.

While the housing crisis looks different in different corners of Michigan, people across the state are struggling to find affordable housing. That's why we just passed a new program to build and rehab affordable housing in Michigan. 1/2 www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2...

The Supreme Court ruled to allow more money in politics and more partisan politics in government. Here's how: First, the court reversed recent precedent to allow political parties and big donors to avoid anti-corruption and transparency laws governing campaigns. 1/x

The Michigan Senate just passed legislation to prevent price gouging during states of emergency. These bills, SBs 1041-1043 prohibit large and unjustified price increases during a declared state of emergency. The bills affect hotels and lodging, emergency services, & energy products like gas. 1/2

When Michigan was moving towards a bill to exempt data centers from sales tax on their computers, I fought alongside many Senate Democratic colleagues to include protections for ratepayers and for water. [Cut into impossibly tiny chunks for Bluesky]

Legislation would shield Michigan workers, consumers, and natural resources from impact of data center projects

This week, we passed my bills out of commitee to build more affordable housing by creating a state-based Low-income Housing Tax Credit. There are many actions we should take to tackle the housing crisis. This is one of the tools to increase supply and one that we may find bipartisan agreement on.

My bill to protect juveniles who work with the police as confidential informants was just reported out of the Michigan Senate Judiciary, Civil Rights, and Public Safety committee. My bill requires parental consent for a juvenile to act as a confidential informant.

The Michigan Senate passed our budget proposal. Now, we can compare and contrast the competing ideas from the House and Senate. For today, I want to compare the Education budgets with a particular focus on one hopeful area of agreement and on one area of disagreement between the chambers. 1/

It's budget time! The Michigan Senate Democrats passed the 2026-27 budget proposal today. Among all of the elements of this budget, one piece that I am particularly proud of is our efforts to make it easier for residents to get help at home so that they can age in place. 1/x
