Whatever you think of the Washington Post at this moment, here's a chance to support the dedicated, hard-working journalists who were just laid off. If you have the means, your donation is most welcome. If you don't, a kind thought and maybe spreading the word to others is support enough 💙

I’m curious: You know the people who we were told were angry and hateful and lashing out politically because being white wasn’t allowed anymore (🙄) and the country was changing and leaving them behind? Are they happy now? Spreading joy? Doing random acts of kindness?

It’s thrown me off to learn that people keep track of how many books they read and I think they’re showing off! I’m sure it only takes 4 seconds but I can only fantasize about having my whole life together enough to do a voluntary administrative task

Dez had a really negative reaction to my explanation of Kwanzaa & I finally realized it was because “it’s an African American tradition”’is what I say (mostly to entertain myself) every time I put lotion on his face and he yells “Whyyy??!” I guess it was sounding a little too similar 😂

Hi writers! I’m looking to assign a couple of features for Slate before the end of the year. If you have anything in mind that you think would be a fit please send me a pitch! Jenée.Desmond- harris@slate.com or dm me. RTs are appreciated so this can reach more people. Thanks!

This is a crazy thing to come on here and say given everything going on in the world but I have to get it off my chest: People are selling “original artwork” on Facebook marketplace but it’s very clearly what they made at a sip ‘n paint

To the person sending multiple fake letters to Slate Advice: I am begging you to vary the voice, length, and sentence structure and take the drama down a notch to make the stories more realistic. I’m not against using the ones that are suspicious but actually good. Please just put some effort in

I just realized friends and family never ask me for help with writing stuff (cover letters, emails, applications, texts, etc.) anymore and I think it’s because of ChatGPT! I guess it’s fine but what do I have to offer now? 🥲

There's a terrible 5th Circuit opinion I'd like you all to see. Lots of people say we should "use conservative arguments against them," but you have to understand, FedSoc judges do not care about their own hypocrisy. They just write their way through it. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

A Court Just Ruled That Cops Can’t Stop-and-Frisk You—if They Suspect a Gun

The ruling makes clear, however, that cops can still stop and frisk a person for existing while Black.

I know social media makes everything an adhd symptom but one I haven’t heard about is never being able to make it to the “link in bio.” I will just have to wonder what the article says because I’m going to get bored on the way there

I remember in 2020 the idea that we (not just people who lost someone to Covid or had it, but everyone) were all upset and down and struggling because of the pandemic and “racial tension” was kind of a media/ social media consensus. And I’m not really seeing that now? I’ve been wondering why

I thought I was done with the culture shock of moving from CA to MD but I just asked a bunch of people how they air out their homes in the summer when it’s always hot and humid and the answer was mostly “we wait until fall”!!! I used to open windows every day of my life so this is a lot to digest

So much going on in this text, which was written — we could also say "lived" — by NPR's media reporter. The most important in my view are these words from a former CEO of NPR, Vivian Schiller. "Any evidence-based news organization that reports critically is going to be accused of left-wing bias."

I got the idea that pulling an all (or very late) nighter once a week or so would be the secret to having enough time to do everything I need to. Did it and I’ve felt like I’m hungover and in a coma for 2 full days. Follow me for more life hacks
