We need a return to songs about killing technology that pisses us off. Where are the "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" or "57 Channels and Nothing On" for AI-infused washing machines?

I used to think the trucker in "Smoky Mountain Rain" was going "as far as Captain Kirk," which would take Ronnie Milsap pretty far from his lady.
While I'm ranting, I want to say that a beat reporter claiming hockey players should want to come to Columbus, OH because "there are 65,000 coeds right up the street" is creepy and gross.
I really need YA authors to learn about no-loan need-based financial aid before they write characters desperate to get a merit scholarship to an Ivy League school.
My brother visited his late wife's grave for her birthday today and found 10 years of decorations gone, as a result of a policy they came up with in the past year and didn't enforce until now.
The target of my rage today: cemeteries that behave like an HOA, policing the visual expression of people's grief with rules that change years after a person was buried. Let mourners decorate!

Okay. So here's what I know - I lost my day job. - I hated my day job. - I liked having a lot of money and health insurance. - But a lot of money never made me happier, I just owned more stuff. - I do still need health insurance. - I'm really fucking good at lettering comic books.
I'm at a Pennsylvania brewery that makes a Czech amber lager called Jaromir Lagr.
Boarding a plane to head to my BFF's bachelorette weekend at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire!
Listening to the new Taylor Swift songs. Patient Zero is my favorite so far; it's her Tango: Maureen.
I've really liked everything with Alice and the new team -- and even Ted himself -- but I'm officially at the point of pretend everything else in this season of Ted Lasso is not canon.
I understand the EU wants Canada to be an associate member, but no one is answering the real question: are they a Logan or a Shannon?
Shout out to Wisconsin for making it EXTREMELY easy for me to look up every vaccine I've ever gotten in this state so I can remember when I had my last doses.
I saw A Few Good Men for the first time recently while flipping channels at a hotel. I did not expect it to be useful homework for Coyote vs. Acme.
If anyone can help my friend Julia -- either monetarily or with leads for housing or employment in Baltimore -- I would really appreciate it.
A difficult Gofundme update: Eviction is scheduled for the end of September. Court date Friday. I am exploring all my options. Realistically, I need a cheaper place, but that takes time & money. I would appreciate any help you can offer -- sharing, donating, job leads. gofund.me/c54bc375a #MutualAid
This one (which I think I've taken before) gave me Newark, NJ as the closest city, which is fair enough! It's about a half hour away from my hometown and probably the smallest close city on their list.
Update: the dialect map quiz thing going around is a cheap knockoff of the good one, which is here: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Mischief Night is always the biggest giveaway but the flat "ah" in Florida(/orange) comes close. (However, the fact that I match 57% Philly and 57% New York is yet more evidence that Central Jersey is, indeed, its own thing.)
lol 33 years in NYC and i still talk like a texan
I'm going to spend my evening finally reading the Dream Girls DC Pride special.
Kayaking on the lake on a gorgeous Wisconsin evening.
Really, Ted Lasso? An extended Harry Potter metaphor in 2026? On a show with several non-binary cast members?
I am, for some reason, riding the America 250 wheel at the Wisconsin State Fair. We got the Gerald Ford car. But I was promised 10 minutes of presidential facts, and it was 3 sentences!
👇🎯 I don't think folks outside of Wisconsin fully grasp how monumental this would be as the culmination of 16 years of slow, hard work to reverse the Fidesz-on-Mendota Party's total control of the state government & the massive damage of the Scott Walker years.
Big silver lining for Dems in Francesca Hong's loss: Wisconsin Dems tell me David Crowley at top of ticket will make state legislative wins more likely, potentially enabling flipping of both chambers to Dems. That would allow Dems to redistrict long-term. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/2142...
Crowley is pretty “Left” himself, and the suggestion that he was vastly more moderate than Hong is inaccurate, imo. Hong winning this many votes in fucking Wisconsin is impressive. It’s ALL impressive, though!! A Black gubernatorial Democratic candidate in Wisconsin? That is exciting, period.
I'll admit, it does feel a little weird that both leading Dem candidates for WI governor are younger than me (one by just a couple weeks, but still).
Heading to the polls to vote in the Wisconsin primary!
Caught up on both X-Men 97 and the new Ted Lasso. The former was a strong episode in a very uneven season. The latter I tentatively liked enough to continue, even though I'm among the few who genuinely liked how the series originally ended, especially for Ted himself.
I think Girl Scouts is an amazing and vital organization and great for most girls, even though I despised camping and always hated 50% or more of my troop (before I reached Seniors and the mean girls quit and it was finally just me and my friends).
what are things where your own experience and the view of what you think is good for most people vary wildly? For instance, I *hated* university and it was not at all interesting or useful to me intellectually, but am generally very encouraging of people going to university.
