Finished this earlier this month and sent it off with my mom (along with this upholstery fabric sample for the back) to become a throw pillow. (She has a machine; I don't.) Which will go nicely with my other tarot throw pillow that I DIDN'T make:

Today I made a bourbon fig upside down cake (it is soaked with bourbon post-bake as well as having bourbon in its making) and my boyfriend said, upon its unveiling from the cake carrier, "that cake smells like it's late for work." What a compliment

To the cashier gal at the 4th Street Trader Joe's who declared that hermitude/bed rotting is a special skill and a valid hobby (I share in them) and then sighed and said "enjoy your freedom" when we finished up: my god, you are my favorite, and your glasses were FANTASTIC

I have recently discovered PBS Louisiana TV chef Kevin Belton and I'm only sad it took me so long. He is so perfectly JOLLY. (I'm always happy to see someone else who talks to their food while they cook it, cheerfully or otherwise.)

The world is exhausting and I am exhausted, so I'm having a little public, inconsequential linguistic selfishness, as a treat: I cannot wait for The Youth* to stop using the word "diabolical" to describe minor things. * Anyone a hairsbreadth younger than me in either corporeal form or in spirit

This molting crow is giving me the same exasperated look my loved ones give me when I'm particularly right (and/or funny) and they can't admit it, which is like injecting joy straight into my veins

The biggest argument my boyfriend and I have ever had was, if cars have butts, whether the butt would be the bumper or the back windshield. We argued about this for 7 hours. He just turned to me and said, "I know we haven't talked about this in a while, but if you consider Optimus Prime—"

My TV got stuck on our local Fox channel at 3am. I learned that Pete Hegseth is HOT, HOT, HOT, and definitely has the best amount of testosterone a fella can have. My TV is off now.

Any excuse to eat salmon is a good one, and @jessieatkin.bsky.social's launch is the best! Jessie also sent me a video of her twin and baby niece reading the book. Her niece gleefully slapped every page (I'm assuming she approves) and filled in "noodles" at the end. I love kidlit so very much.

If you see this, please tell me the worst/most baffling bit of creative feedback you've ever recieved. Mine is still the time somebody told me my aliens had names that were too alien. Not that they were unpronounceable, just that they didn't sound enough like human names.

Mamdani: "Therein lies the work of America -- a striving, a bettering, the reaching toward perfection. What a privilege each of us has to live in a nation that every one of its inhabitants can shape. What a responsibility each of us possesses to prove ourselves worthy of all those who came before."

It is remarkable how working on a cross-stitch or other embroidery project makes me feel so much better about the rest of life's foibles. Tangible progress! And it's pretty! (Justice tarot pattern from The Witchy Stitcher on Etsy)
